2022 East Asian Studies Senior Thesis Colloquium
We're delighted to invite you to the 2022 EAS Senior Thesis Colloquium, where six of our thesis writers will present their research (followed by short Q&As) for an audience of faculty and peers. Due to social distancing efforts, this will be a hybrid event held simultaneously in person and via livestream. The presentations will take place in the first floor common room at 2 Divinity Ave., Cambridge, from 10am-12:30pm next Tuesday, February 15. Light refreshments and drinks will be served while observing current University safety guidelines. Seating will be somewhat limited due to distancing. HKS Evidence for Policy Design's "Evidence Corps Internship Program": Summer Internship with Asian Development Bank Institute - Japan (Remote)

Organization Description
The Asian Development Bank Institute (ADBI) is the Tokyo-based think tank of the Asian Development Bank, which supports a multilateral development bank for Asia and the Pacific. ADBI conducts evidence-based policy research and capacity building and training programs for eliminating poverty and promoting sustainable, inclusive, and resilient growth across the region.
Internship Details
Internship Opportunities: 2 Undergraduates
Dates: 8 weeks, between June and August
Location: Most likely remote, but a possibility to be based in Tokyo, Japan
Preferred Qualifications: An interest in issues related to Asian economic and financial development. Preferably working towards a degree in economics.
Responsibilities
The first opportunity is focused on a project related to low-carbon cooling, supporting visualization of main findings and policy recommendations, data collection, and brief case-boxes related to cooling policies. Ideally, candidates will have an interest in renewable energy and energy conservation.
The second opportunity will be for an internship responsible for preparing literature reviews and data analysis related to total factor productivity (TFP) growth and resilience to shocks in emerging Asia.

LEAP (Leadership Education for Asian Pacifics) is a national, nonprofit organization, with a mission to achieve full participation and equality for Asian and Pacific Islanders (APIs) through leadership, empowerment, and policy. It started with a simple yet powerful idea: that in order for API communities to realize their full potential and to foster robust participation in this increasingly globalized world, these communities would have to begin producing leaders who could advocate and speak on their behalf.

The Peabody Museum runs a paid summer internship program for Harvard undergraduate students every other year. Projects vary from year to year, but are generally designed to support the Peabody Museum’s mission of enhancing university teaching and learning through hands-on engagement with Museum collections, and to provide participants with a unique research experience. Internships are supervised by the Academic Partnerships Department (AP), with support from additional museum staff.

The Summer Humanities and Arts Research Program (SHARP) is a 10-week immersive summer program that aims to build community and stimulate creativity among a small cohort of Harvard undergraduate researchers in the humanities and arts. SHARP fellows work on research projects with Harvard-affiliated faculty, researchers, and senior library and museum staff. Fellows live together in one of the Harvard College houses and participate in rich evening programming that includes both social and academic activities. Mittal Institute Grants

The Mittal Institute provides three types of grants to Harvard University students:
Internship grants are awarded to students who choose to work with specific organizations on a project developed by either the organization or in collaboration with the internship-site.
Language study grants are awarded to students who choose to pursue an intensive study of a South Asian language.
Research grants are awarded to students pursuing research on specific topics that could contribute to a thesis or dissertation or if the applicant has done preliminary work on the topic.

Summer Travel Grants and the Undergraduate Associates Program

The Weatherhead Center holds an annual competition to award fifteen to twenty travel grants to support the summer field research of Harvard undergraduates. These grants are designed to help finance travel in connection with senior thesis research on international affairs. All grant recipients become Undergraduate Associates of the Weatherhead Center for the academic year following their summer research and present their research findings at a conference organized by the Center in February of their senior year.

Submit your work to the Columbia Journal of Asia!

The Columbia Journal of Asia (CJA) is currently accepting submissions for its first issue. CJA is an open-access, peer-reviewed platform for creative and academic pieces on Asia, the Asian diaspora, and comparative studies broadly related to Asia. It addresses an urgent need for more representation and understanding of Asian narratives in Western academic and artistic circles.
We welcome both academic papers (>4,000 words) and creative works (<2,000 words), which includes poetry, prose, and original translations. Undergraduate students of all majors and class years at any university are encouraged to submit. The regular deadline for submissions is Feb. 28, 2022, by 11:59 PM EST. The priority deadline is Feb. 14, 2022, by 11:59 PM EST. Submissions will be reviewed on a rolling basis, and all applicants will hear back about the status of their submission by mid-March.

For over twenty years, the Asian American Dance Troupe (AADT) has sought to spread an appreciation and awareness of Asian culture through the medium of dance. Our repertoire includes a diverse range of dance forms including traditional, ethnic minority, fusion, martial arts, modern, and hip hop. China Forum
Founded in 1998, Harvard College China Forum is currently the largest China-focused conference in the New England area and annually attracts audiences from all over North America. Every spring the forum invites influential business leaders, policy shapers, and leading scholars to Harvard to address current events in a wide range of topics relevant to the development of China today. Operating under the Harvard China Review framework, HCCF, together with the Harvard China Review, runs a series of sub-programs, including monthly seminars and an annual cultural exchange program in the summer. A tight-knit organization that meets to discuss various economic, social, political, cultural issues related to modern Korea. As the Korean word "Gaongil" means "Middle-Path," the organization is committed to remaining nonpartisan while encouraging free, unhindered discussion. Anyone interested in joining Gaongil is welcome! No prior experience with Korean language or culture is needed; meetings are in English.

The HDS Buddhist Community (HBC) is a nondenominational Buddhist group serving the Harvard and Cambridge communities throughout the school year. In addition to hosting weekly meditation sittings, HBC also organizes Buddhist film screenings and discussion groups, as well as the annual Buddhism & Race Conference. HBC generally meets weekly at the Harvard Divinity School.

International Chinese Studies Virtual Events Clearing-House
In spring 2020, as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, China Studies around the world moved online. One unanticipated consequence of this unfortunate situation is that it is now possible to attend events regardless of one’s location. The China Studies Virtual Events Clearing-house has been created to share information about upcoming online events with the broader China studies community. The International Japanese Studies Events Database was created in response to the Covid-19 pandemic and the shift to online event programming undertaken at institutions and programs worldwide. Inspired by a similar initiative within the Chinese studies community and Harvard's Fairbank Center, the Edwin O. Reischauer Institute of Japanese Studies, in cooperation with the Weatherhead Center Program on US-Japan Relations, has launched this site as a service to the wider Japanese studies community.
