Applications are now being accepted for the OIA Area Studies Centers' 2024-2025 K-14 Global Fellowship Program. The program will consist of one pre-program orientation in early September, four or five regional topic lectures during October through March, and one pedagogy session in April. Sessions will take place on select Saturdays during the academic year from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. EST online via Zoom.

This year’s Global Fellowship Program will focus on Indigenous peoples across the globe. Participating educators will explore the histories and challenges faced by Indigenous groups in Africa, East Asia, Eastern Europe and Eurasia, Latin America, and the Middle East. Regional topic sessions will help to expand teachers’ and students’ knowledge about Indigenous peoples outside of North America, their histories and cultures, their interactions with others, and the issues they face in their respective regions. By attending this program, participants will receive historical background and resources on this topic so that they can teach and discuss this subject with their students in their own classrooms.

The Ohio State University is hosting the 8th US-Japan Digital Innovation Hub and Advanced Technology Workshop in Columbus, Ohio, on Wednesday, September 11 and Thursday, September 12.

The meeting aims to strengthen collaboration between the United States and Japan in developing advanced technologies and digital talent while tackling the latest trends and challenges in each country.

Since 2015, U.S. universities, industries and government agencies have collaborated with leading universities in Japan to build a platform for innovation creation in the digital and critical and emerging technologies (CET) space.

This year’s event will have a specific focus on the development of semiconductors, the future of transportation and space exploration, artificial intelligence and quantum information science — vital areas that are impacting industries ranging from health and life sciences to advanced manufacturing and transportation.

Information will also be shared about the Hiroshima AI process implementation; the creation of international rules and a joint system for Data Free Flow with Trust (DEFT); data sharing; commercial use; and strategic management.

Participants will have the opportunity to engage with students as part of a interactive Poster Session on September 11.
