A tax assessor went to see a Christian to determine the amount of taxes he owed. "How much property and assets do you have?" asked the assessor.
"Well," said the Christian,
"I am a very wealthy man."
"Would you list your possessions, please," the assessor continued.
And then the Christian listed all his assets for the assessor:
"First, I have everlasting life."Jesus said:
"I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life." (John 5:24)
"Second, I have had my sins forgiven." Ephesians 1:7 says:
"In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins..."
"Third, I have peace that passes all understanding." Philippians 4:7 says:
"And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."
"Fourth, I have indescribable joy." 1 Peter 1:8 says:
"you believe in Him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy..."
"Fifth, I have been given God's love." Romans 5:8 says:
"But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us".
"Sixth, I have songs in the night." Psalms 42:8 says:
"By day the Lord directs His love, at night His song is with me-a prayer to the God of my life."
"Seventh, God has given me a new life." 2 Corinthians 5:17 says:
"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!"
Eighth, I have God's resources for my life."
Philippians 4:19 says:
"And my God will meet all your needs according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus."
"Ninth, I have a mansion in heaven." John 14:2 says:
"In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you."
"Tenth, I have a crown of life." James 1:12 says:
"Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love Him."
The tax assessor was quite impressed with the Christian's holdings. As he closed his account book, he said to the Christian,
"Sir, the assets you have listed are not subject to taxes. But from what I can see, you are truly a very rich man!"
If you are a Christ-follower, your assets can't be devalued in a market crash or stolen. Your eternal securities are certain and protected by the full faith and credit of the Bank of Heaven. God's promises and power belongs to the fellowship of the redeemed.
This Sunday we will talk about these assets. In fact, we will be giving thanks for these blessings and so much more. Come and celebrate! We'll tell you how to open an account in the Bank of Heaven and build up assets that will last for eternity.
