EAST HILLS CONNECTION WEEKLY NEWSLETTER
A Few Words From Pastor Mark
These days, many people are afraid. People are afraid of losing their jobs, their homes, and their assets. Many worry about our politicians, terrorism, and the world situation.

But as I read the Christmas story again this year, one little verse keeps coming to mind. Luke's gospel (2:1) simply begins the Christmas story with the words:
"In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world."

The first century was an even scarier time in the world than now. The Roman Empire had conquered most of the known world. Caesar Augustus was a tyrant with great power. Luke 2:1-2 shows that Caesar was big on raising taxes too. Yet while cruel men dominated the world stage, God was at work. When the news was the worst, God was doing His best. What seemed to be the most hopeless time would bring the most hope! When people were afraid, God was sending His angels to tell the world:
"Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people." (Luke 2:10)

Folks, this is the message of Christmas. While the world was in chaos, sin reigned, and things appeared so hopeless, God was working. When things looked dark and there seemed no way out, God surreptitiously worked for the good of mankind. Jesus' birth ended the need for fear and demonstrated the sovereign plan of God!

And the same God is working today for your needs, burdens, and cares! You don't need to be worried or afraid. The same God that worked back then is the same God that will take care of you, your finances, your job, your family, your health, and your future. The same God that orchestrated history to culminate in His Son being born in a manger to save the world is working even now. Behind the scenes, even when you think nothing is happening, God is at work in your life. He is working for your good and for His glory.

So, my dear friend, trust God right now. Remember His promises at this Christmas season. Rest in His sovereignty every moment of every day. Know His peace in your heart and life. Tell everyone you know that Christmas is living proof that God works behind-the-scenes to rescue, restore, and redeem us! Experience His peace in your heart as you meditate on His power, love, and grace to you.

And that is why I invite you to East Hills for Sunday! I am so excited about this Sunday's worship services! We will have an opportunity to share the Good News this Sunday. Our services are always casual, contemporary, and Christ-centered. The songs we sing are uplifting and inspiring. If you have been away from EHCC for a while, this would be a great day to come!

So, see you for worship this Sunday at East Hills Church!  Bring a Bible, a smile, your friends and family. We'll be celebrating the Lord's Supper this Sunday. Remember, we have:

This Weeks Message
We are in a Christmas sermon series called "The Message of Christmas." Next Sunday's message will be from Luke 1:32 but it will take us to several other places in God's word as we study the deity of Christ. The title is "Jesus: Truly Great!" It will be Christianity 101 telling us how God in Christ offers us salvation, joy, peace, meaning, and eternal life. If you bring guests to EHCC, they will get an opportunity to receive Christ as Lord and Savior at the close of the service too.
Special Music
Our soloist on Sunday is Tom Lucia. Tom will be performing a beloved Christmas carol entitled, "O Holy Night", composed by Adolphe Adam in 1847 to the French poem "Minuit, chrétiens" (Midnight, Christians) written by wine merchant and poet Placide Cappeau (1808-1877). It is one of the most powerful Christmas Hymns ever written.

"A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices
For yonder breaks a new glorious morn
Fall on your knees
O hear the angels' voices ..."

Merry Christmas!
Thank you to all who helped decorate our church for Christmas! It is always special to fellowship together and enjoy each other's company in this way. Every year Christmastime is so beautiful at East Hills Church!
