Next Community Learning Series - Anxiety
|
|
Dr. Rich Gilman joined us this week for a presentation on anxiety called, “Anxiety and Your Child: A Primer for Parents.” We had a great turnout of community members, but since this is such a hot topic, we recorded the presentation and and are attaching the presentation notes.
Dr. Gilman is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association, Editor of School Psychology Quarterly, and has over 100 publications exploring factors that lead to optimal student development.
Our next Community Learning Series will be held on January 29 where we will learn about Cultural Competency.

Congratulations to Kings High School senior, Erin Seccia who has been accepted as a member of the 2019 Envision Project. This is a 16-week program held at the Manifest Drawing Center where students learn the fundamentals of analog film photography while exploring how the photograph can expose the frame and world around them.

Kings High School Art Students made a difference for eight South Lebanon Elementary students before Winter Break. The students took part in a project called, "Spread the Light."
The Spread the Light Project was started by Kings Art Teacher, Stacy Hoffert. The goal of the program is to spread light, love, hope, and kindness through art. Hoffert enlisted the help of some of her KHS Intro to Drawing students to help inspire some younger students by drawing a unique portrait of the SLE students for them to keep.
Right before Winter Break, the SLE students received their portraits. Mrs. Hoffert said, "My hope is that this project will help uplift the spirits of the SLE students and help them feel like an important part of our community."
Thank you to our KHS artists: Sarah Drees, Sarah Adams, McKenna Dailey, Sophia Taylor, Miya McIntyre, Izzy Reyes, Madi Foster, and Annabelle Litwiler.
SLE students who received the portraits pictured below are: Bella Annis, Ariana Bradley, Madison McKakin, Gabe Nickol, Charile Nikol, Cayleb Symmes, and Zane Todd.
Mrs. Hoffert hopes to expand the program next year!

Learning With QR Codes at KJH
|
|
This week, Mr. Jepson's Spanish I class at Kings Junior High used some different technology to review their Spanish verbs. Students spent time reviewing verbs and places around school by navigating a QR Code Scavenger Hunt.
The Spanish students had to use a QR reader to scan the codes that Mr, Jepson posted around the KJH building. Then, they had to complete the Spanish sentences to find the next location. The scavenger hunt took the students through the entire Junior High building, helping them practice their Spanish language skills in a kinesthetic and critical thinking manner.
Pictured is Thomas Boerger, Aidan Vogt, and Colin Hunter.

There's still time to support Kings Wrestling by supporting their "Pledges for Pins and Wins" to support their athletes.
There are 45 wrestlers looking for someone who will believe in them and be their personal cheerleader! At the end of the season you’ll get a letter from your Wrestler, thanking you and explaining what your donation meant, and a personal accomplishment they are most proud of this season.
Business sponsors are welcome and will be promoted on social media and announced at all home meets. Sponsors will be invited to the team's community dinner following the Jam the Stands Lebanon meet on January 30.
If you know a wrestler, consider making a donation. If you don’t, but would like to be a personal cheerleader to a student athlete, contact Sara Legault at
