|
|
The Kings Diversity and Inclusion Task Force is committed to adding books of diverse subjects and by diverse authors to our District libraries. A
GoFundMe page
has been established to help get diverse books into classrooms and to the hands of young readers.
So far the fund has raised $1,530 and it was enough to purchase the first round of books for 6th Grade classes at Columbia Intermediate School. They have ordered 18 copies each of the books
Brown Girl Dreaming, The War That Saved My Life,
and
Code Talkers.
The D&I Task Force is looking forward to
Mulitcultural Children's Book Day

Did you know that more than a half-million pounds of crayons are thrown away each year creating a waxy sludge that clogs landfills and never biodegrades? Beginning next week, October 8, Kings Mills Elementary Art Teacher, Katie Heagan is introducing
The Crayon Initiative
, a program that collects used crayons and recycles them to donate to art programs at children's hospitals across the United States.
Would you like to help? We are asking anyone in the community to drop off your used crayons packaged in a Ziploc bag to KME. There is a box in the front entrance of the school. Collect as many "old" crayons from home or restaurants to donate.Crayons will be collected through November 5.
Here is a great video about The Crayon Initiative.
