Congratulations to the staff of J.F. Burns Elementary School on being a recipient of the 2018 Ohio Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) Silver Recognition Award. Only 23 Ohio schools were recognized at this level for their success of effective implementation of PBIS programs in their schools.
PBIS is a schoolwide framework that the District has been using for 3 years. It has been shown to improve student behavior, academic achievement, and overall school climate. Schools apply through their local State Support Team (SST) and earn recognition at the gold, silver, and bronze levels. Last year, J.F. Burns Elementary was the recipient of the Bronze Recognition Award.
Some members of the JFB staff were present to receive their award at the Ohio PBIS Showcase on November 29 in Columbus, Ohio. State Superintendent of Instruction, Paolo DeMaria presented the awards and congratulated the winning schools and leaders in the state for implementing supports to create positive school cultures.
