KME 3rd & 4th Grade Give Back in a BIG Way!
|
|
During the month of December, the 3rd and 4th grade classes at Kings Mills Elementary took part in a Citizenship Project. This project was used to teach the students about being an active part of the community and a volunteer who works for the common good of the community. This project aligns with the social studies curriculum.
Each student was encouraged to be a part of the process through school activities, as well as independently. Each week the students focused on an organization that helps the community. They donated cereal to Kings Food Pantry, collected gently used or new pajamas and lunch boxes for Kings Kloset which included a fun PJ day for all 3rd and 4th graders. Lastly, during the final week of the project, they collected items for the KME Food Pantry.
Collection totals include:
- Cereal boxes - 189 boxes donated to Kings/South Lebanon Food Pantry
- Pop tarts - 118 boxes donated to Kings/South Lebanon Food Pantry
- Pajamas - 185 pairs donated and 19 additional pairs bought with donated money, for a total of 204 pairs donated to Kings Kloset
- Lunch boxes - 72 donated to Kings Kloset
- 161 items donated to the KME Food Pantry
KME 4th grade teacher, Mrs. Jenkins said, "We are excited about teaching our kids to be an active part of a wonderful community!" #KINGSSTRONG

Community Partners and Families in the Kings Community have again helped Kings U Knights bring Christmas joy to nearly 100 families this year.
Because of generous donations, 266 children will receive two clothing items and one fun gift, and each family will receive a Kroger gift card.
For four years in a row, Missy and Mick Kowitz along with a great team of 20 plus volunteers have gathered donations, shopped, wrapped, and made the holiday brighter for Kings families.
This year the Kings U Knights team wrapped 798 gifts from 78 sponsors including businesses, churches, and individuals. They also received $3,500 in gift cards.
Kings U Knights would like to send a very special thank you to the following generous Community Partners: Bush Truck Leasing, First Financial Bank, Cintas Accounting and Finance Department, YMCA-Landen, Heritage Presbyterian Church, Rivers Crossing Community Church, Church Venture, Deerfield United Methodist Church, and Pure Ministries.

Innovative Math Fun at SLE
|
|
Taking a Math test probably isn't at the top of a student's fun list but South Lebanon Elementary 3rd grade teacher, Molly Zeek brought a flurry of fun to her classroom this week to switch up a boring math test with a secret snowflake challenge.
Mrs. Zeek and 3rd grade SLE teacher, Rachel Manley knew that trying to get their students to focus on a test during the last week before Winter Break was going to be a challenge so they made some changes. They deconstructed the test by taking word problems and changing the topics of the problems to revolve around snow. They used large snowflake cutouts with the math problems on the back to be answered.
Mrs. Zeek's room was decorated with snowflakes and even a blow-up snowglobe!
What a great way to be innovative and provide a fun way to learn!

Many of our sports teams host fundraisers to support their teams. This year, Knights Wrestling is hosting "Pledges for Pins and Wins" to support their athletes.
Wrestling is about personal dedication, personal victories, and a good support system. So, the coaches came up with Pledges for Pins and Wins which includes the option to sponsor a wrestler for a flat rate. The wrestlers solicit sponsors and their personal hard work will support our program.
There are 45 wrestlers looking for someone who will believe in them and be their personal cheerleader! At the end of the season you’ll get a letter from your Wrestler, thanking you and explaining what your donation meant, and a personal accomplishment they are most proud of this season.
Business sponsors are welcome and will be promoted on social media and announced at all home meets. Sponsors will be invited to the team's community dinner following the Jam the Stands Lebanon meet on January 30.
If you know a wrestler, consider making a donation. If you don’t, but would like to be a personal cheerleader to a student athlete, contact Sara Legault at
Legault.sara@gmail.com
