Watch D.O.G.S. at JFB
In August, we told you about a program called Watch D.O.G.S. that was being used at Kings Mills Elementary. WATCH D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students) is a program that gives an opportunity for the men involved in the lives of students to have dedicated time to be involved at their students' school building.
J.F. Burns Elementary has now put the program into place in their building. Last week, the D.O.G.S. helped out in the JFB Makerspace.
WATCH D.O.G.S. is an innovative father/male involvement, educational initiative of the National Center For Fathering. The goal of the program is to provide positive male role models for students, demonstrating by their presence that education is important. It also helps to provide an extra set of eyes and ears to enhance school security.

The Kings Board of Education approved a new

Approved Classroom Snack Lis

We thought it was important to remind parents that the intention of the new snack list is to support student development in promoting healthy foods while providing food offerings that are safe for all students in order to minimize allergen events.

Polar Plunge for Special Olympics
Columbia Intermediate School Intervention Specialist, Denice Rutousky participated in the 2018 Polar Plunge last weekend which is one of the biggest Special Olympics fundraisers. Rutousky, along with her brother, Scottie, and CIS 6ht grader, Jordyn Bailey took the plunge into frigid waters.
Hundreds of people took the Polar Plunge in a giant pool set up outside of Joe’s Crab Shack in Bellevue, Kentucky with a goal of raising $150,000 benefit Special Olympic athletes in Ohio and Kentucky.
Mrs. Rutousky's team raised $3,400 and were the second highest fundraiser of the event! Rutousky and her husband have coached for Special Olympics for many years. The most important reason she says she was “Freezin for a Reason” is because her brother, Scottie has Down Syndrome and he’s been involved in Special Olympics for 40 years. This was Rutousky’s seventh year of taking the plunge.
