KHS Receives College Success Award
Launched by GreatSchools, the College Success Award recognizes and celebrates high schools like ours that go beyond simply getting our students to graduation and also focus on ensuring students are prepared to succeed in college and ultimately careers.
KHS is one of 814 public high schools across 9 states to be honored with the award. The award is based on data about how our school prepares students to succeed after high school, including whether they enroll in college, are ready for college-level coursework when they get there, and persist into their second year.
Carol Lloyd,
VP and Editorial Director of GreatSchools.org said, "We applaud the hard work of the entire Kings community—including students, parents, teachers, and others that aspire to help our students succeed in college and beyond. Congratulations on receiving the College Success Award!"

SLE 2nd Grade Researchers
The second grade students in Sheridan Pagan's class at South Lebanon Elementary have worked on a biography research report for the last few months. Each student picked a famous American to learn about and then created a Google Slide presentation about their person.
As part of the project, the students also created a postage stamp and a timeline about their person's life. Additionally, they created a project to share with the class which included cereal box reports, pillow cases, puppets, pop up books, and mazes.
On presentation day, the students came to school dressed as their famous person and presented their findings in front of their classmates and their parents.

King Mansion Being Dedicated This Weekend
The historical King Mansion located on King Avenue in Kings Mills, Ohio will be dedicted as an Ohio Historical Marker on Sunday, April 29, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. The public is invited.
Here is an open letter from Karen Dinsmore, Chair of the Friends
of
the
20
Mile
House Historical Preservation Group, with a little history lesson on Kings Mills and Kings Schools. Thank you Dr. Dinsmore for giving us all more information about where we live and work!
I
am
proud
to
announce
that
on April
29,
2018
we
will
be
dedicating
an Ohio
Historical Marker at the
King
Mansion at
1720
King Avenue in
Kings
Mills.
The
first
house
to be
built in
Kings
Mills,
it
was
the
home
of
Ahimaaz King,
who
managed
both
the
King
Powder
Company
and
the
Peters Cartridge factory and
started
what
is
now
the
Kings
Local
School
System.
Ahimaaz King
was
born
in
Connecticut,
and
at
16
came
to
live
with
the
family of his
uncle,
J.W.
King,
in
Xenia who was in
the
gun
powder business. He went
to
work
for
his
uncle
and
when
his
uncle decided
to
relocate to
Warren
County after
purchasing
the
320 acre
Stubbs
Estate
in
Deerfield Township,
he
sent
Ahimaaz
down
to
get
the
powder
mills built
and
operating
and
to
guide
the
building
of
the
company-
owned
town
of
Kings
Mills.
After
getting
the
power mills
built,
Ahimaaz
and
his
wife
purchased
84
acres
and
proceeded
to
build
a
12
room
brick
mansion
in
1885
for
their
family
of
seven children. Harry
and
Robert were approaching high school
age
and the one room school where
the fire
station
now
stands
only
went
to
8“ grade so
Ahimaaz
got
permission from the state of Ohio
to
start
his own school
system
with
a
high
school.
He
then proceeded
to
build an eight
room
brick
school
with
full basement
and
bay
windows
in
front
on
King
Avenue
in
1890
for
grades
1-12
with
his
own
money
that
had
very
high
standards.
Most
schools
back
then
were
one
room
and
the
teacher
had
a
high
school
diploma.
Ahimaaz
wanted his children
to
go
to
college
so
he
insisted
his teachers have
a
college
education. He
placed
his
oldest
son,
George,
on
the
school board
to
make
sure
those
high
standards
were
maintained
and
George served
on
the board
for
over
40
years.
Ahimaaz didn’t
just
build
the
school
but
continuously
worked
to
improve
it.
A
few
years after
the
school
was
completed,
he
got
a
grant from
the
state
of
Ohio
for
16
woodworking benches
for
a
shop
in
the
school basement.
He
also built
a
small
building
west
of
the
school
to
house
a
Home Economics
Department and had
Home
Ec
students prepare
lunch
for
the
students
each
day.
One
of
the
greatest
additions
was
a
gymnasium.
The
Peters
Cartridge Company
and
King
Powder
Companies
funded
for
the
high
school that
was
open weekends
and
during
the
summer for the whole
town
to enjoy that was
deeded
to
the
school
system.
Kings Local School District exists today because of
the
vision
and
sacrifice of
Ahimaaz
King.
I
hope
you
will
convey
this fact to your faculty
and
students
prior
to
the
marker dedication
so
they
can
have
a
greater
appreciation of
their
school
system
and
the
man who
set
its
high
standards.
Sincerely,
Dr. Karen Dinsmore

IMMUNIZATION REQUIREMENTS FOR ENTRY INTO 7
th
& 12th GRADE
Students entering
7
th
grade
will need to have one dose of
meningococcal (MCV4)
vaccine and one dose of the
Tdap
(tetanus, diphtheria, and acellular pertussis) vaccine.
Students entering
12
th
grade
will need to have a second dose of
meningococcal vaccine
. The second dose must be administered on or after the 16
th
birthday. If the first dose of meningococcal vaccine was administered after the 16
th
birthday, a second dose is not required.
Ohio law allows a 14 day grace period for the beginning of the school year. If a student does not obtain the required vaccinations and provide written documentation (immunization record) or an exemption note to the school, the school will exclude that student on the 15
th
day of the 2018/2019 school year until the immunization requirement is fulfilled.
Your child may have already received this vaccine at his/her most recent check-up. If not, please schedule an appointment with your primary health care provider. In addition, the Warren County Health Department provides a variety of clinic hours offering vaccinations at a low cost. Their number is 695-1468.
Please send updated vaccination records that reflect that these requirements have been met to your child’s school nurse.
