Kings Adds Second SRO
We are excited to report that a longstanding partnership between the Warren County Sheriff’s Office and Deerfield Township will result in the addition of one full-time school resource officer beginning in the 2018-19 school year at no cost to the school district.
The new officer is a Warren County Sheriff’s deputy who will provide full-time school resource officer duties for the Kings elementary buildings which will be funded by Deerfield Township.
“There is no higher priority than the safety and security of our students and staff,” said Tim Ackermann, superintendent of Kings Local School District. Ackermann noted that the district currently has one school resource officer headquartered at Kings High School but with responsibility for multiple locations.
The addition of a second full-time deputy will significantly expand the safety coverage the district provides to students and staff. “We are grateful for the strong partnership we enjoy with Deerfield Township and the Warren County Sheriff’s Office,” Ackermann said. “Knowing Sheriff Larry Sims and his team are focused on our safety allows us to keep our attention on educating.”
“We are 100 percent committed to supporting our local school districts in any way we can,” said Lelle Lutts- Hedding, president of the Deerfield Township Board of Trustees. “Ensuring the safety of our kids takes the watchful eye of an entire community. The township recognizes the responsibility we have every single day to keep our school campuses safe, and we are honored to work with Sheriff Sims, Superintendent Ackermann, and the entire school district to do so.”
“Our deputies bring the skills, training, and resources of our entire department with them in their service to local students,” said Warren County Sheriff Larry Sims. “These are our kids and grandkids, too, so we take this work personally and feel privileged to serve.”
The location for the new SRO is to be determined.

KHS Senior Reflection Night and KHS Art Show
On Thursday, April 5, Kings High School seniors participated in the annual Community Service Reflection Night, a night where all seniors share with the community how they performed their required community service hours.
The evening began with seniors receiving community service awards for various levels of service performed during their senior year. Senior Nora Fitzgerald was presented with the Mayerson Foundation Book Award by KHS Community Service Adviser, Lynn Brant. Nora has logged over 1,100 community service hours.
The featured speaker of the evening was KHS Class of 2013 graduate, Zack Middleton representing St. Jude Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. He spoke to the entire senior class and their guests about St. Jude's mission to care for pediatric cancer patients at no cost. Zack encouraged the seniors to continue their community service work.
After the program in the auditorium, students gathered in assigned classrooms throughout the building to give a short presentation of how their community service impacted their lives and lives of others. Many students used technology such as videos, movies, or Powerpoint presentations to reflect on their service experiences. The Class of 2018 has completed over 24,000 community service hours and counting!
Additionally, the Kings High School Art Show was held in the Bradford Learning Commons. Several pieces of art from our undergrad art students, as well as the Senior Art Show projects were on display throughout the commons. We sure have some talented students at KHS!

Celebrating Autism
Students in the Social Communication Classroom at Kings Mills Elementary recently completed a project to raise awareness about autism for Autism Awareness Month.
The SCC room is made up of mostly autistic students in grades K-3. Unfortunately, many tend to misunderstand what autism is. Paraprofessional, Jessica Halsey, said, "Autism is very unique and different. Not one child with autism is the same as the next."
The class made a bulletin board that said, "We Are Different Not Less! We Are Able." Yes you are! Way to go, SCC students!

KHS Transition and College Fair
At Kings High School, they focus on providing students with the best education possible. In meeting the demands of the future, they believe it’s important to allow all students the opportunity to have exposure to the various options they have available to them once they graduate from Kings High School.
In order to meet that goal, they have planned to hold their first ever Kings High School College and Transition Fair on April 23, 2018. Students in grades 9-11 will have the opportunity to attend during school hours and this event will be open to the public beginning at 6:00 p.m.
Students and parents will have the opportunity to visit different booths to increase their knowledge of post-secondary opportunities including military, two-year, and 4 year college degree programs. Additionally, there will be services available from select colleges to discuss student accessibility and accommodations at the collegiate level. As part of the event, they have also invited adult service providers, transition programs, and adult agencies to provide families with information about the opportunities available to their students post-secondary options.
We hope you are able to participate. Mark your calendars for April 23, 2018!
