Kings Launches 2nd Thoughtexchange
|
|
The Kings Local School District has launched it's second online learning process called Thoughtexchange. We really appreciate the community feedback that we received on our first Exchange.
We took the feedback and thoughts and our Long Range Facility Planning Team created two options with potential scenarios. This process will allow us to reach out to everyone affected by the decisions made in the Kings District. We would like your thoughts and feedback regarding the facility options that we have presented in the video.
We would like to invite you to participate in an Exchange that flows through three steps:
- Share – answer open-ended questions about education in our schools
- Star – review ideas from other stakeholders and rate the ideas you like best
- Discover – learn what is important to the community as a whole
Please follow
this link
to participate. Additionally, feel free to share with your friends and neighbors. We want all of the residents in the Kings Local School District to have a voice!

Thanks and we look forward to hearing your thoughts!

KHS Senior Scholar Athletes
|
|
For the past 23 years, the Kings Athletic Booster Club and the Kings Athletic Department have honored student athletes who have maintained excellent academic standards while dedicating their time and energy to Kings athletics. On Wednesday, May 16, the Annual Senior Scholar-Athlete Luncheon was held at TPC Rivers Bend. Twenty-six students were recognized at the luncheon with their parents and a Kings staff member who has particularly influenced their academic and athletic success.
To qualify for this award, an athlete must have earned a cumulative grade point average of 3.850 or better for seven semesters at KHS while earning a minimum of five varsity letters in multiple sports, or four varsity letters in one sport. This year's group have an average GPA of 4.25! A fun fact about the this years group is that it included two sets of triplets and one set of twins!
Tyler Miller, Kings Athletic Director said, "This group exemplifies what our student-athletes stand for and is by far my favorite event of the year!"
Every scholar-athlete honored is attending college and many of them will also play sports.
This year’s Scholar Athletes are: Lainey Bachmann, Allyson Carlin, Emilee Carlin, Sophie Carlin, Jack Chambers, Isaac Chunn, Karleigh Conner, Abigail Dorsa, Shannon Jelley, Olivia Katenkamp, Teresa Klaber, Leah Maschino, Claire Meyer, Anna Muenchen, Nate Muenchen, James Naughton, Michael Naughton, Kaitlyn Pedersen, Cecilie Reich, Lillian Richardson, Mark Sannella, Benjamin Smith, Noah Stubenrauch, Katherine Waissbluth, and Allyson Wilson. KJH 7th Graders River Ecology Trip
|
|
On Friday, May 11, the Kings Junior High 7 Blue Team students participated in an outdoor educational opportunity on the Little Miami River. The goal was to learn about the Little Miami Watershed and factors influencing the health of this tributary of the Ohio River.
Students rotated through 3 groups, led by Ohio River Foundation Ecologists. To evaluate the health of the river, students analyzed macroinvertebrate species (little aquatic creepy crawlies), caught some fish with seines, and performed water chemistry tests for oxygen, pH, phosphates, and turbidity. Students used the gathered data to discuss the overall health of the river, and human factors that can influence water quality. KJH Teacher, Heidi Strong said, "We had wonderful weather and learned a lot!"
Environmental science and chemistry were two of the main curriculum units this year for the 7th grade. Strong said, "This trip was a wonderful opportunity to apply this knowledge in a hands-on activity."

CIS Nurse Teaches "The Heimlich"
|
|
Columbia Intermediate School Nurse, Karen Frecker visited all of the 5th grade Science classes recently and taught students what to do if they or someone else is choking.
She taught them how to do the Heimlich Maneuver and students were even able to practice using her "choking doll." Each student was given a Heimlich Hero pamphlet that explains what they discussed in class. Thanks, Mrs. Frecker!
Pictured is Aiden Kirkpatrick while Mrs. Frecker teaches him proper hand placement.

Summer Reading Volunteers Needed
|
|
Joshua's Place has partnered with the staff and teachers at South Lebanon Elementary to host a fun and creative reading program called "Joshua's Place Summer Reading Lab."
Joshua's Place strives to help the children in our community with their reading skills throughout the school year with their Whiz Kid program. They hope to help keep these students' momentum going and don't want them to lose any ground they may have gained just because it is summer.
They have identified over 50 students who will be part of the Reading Lab and are looking for volunteers willing to come and spend an hour reading with the kids. This will not be a one on one tutoring session. The kids will be grouped according to grade level.
The reading lab will be held on Wednesdays throughout the summer from 10:30 to 11:30. The first reading lab will be June 13 and our last lab will be July 25. (We would not meet on July 4th.
)
You do not need to commit to the entire summer.
Even if you can only volunteer one week, they would be happy to have you!
This is a great oppo
rtunity for high school kids to get community service hours.

Dave Segrist Annual Golf Outing
|
|
Former Kings teacher and coach Dave Segrist lost his battle with pancreatic cancer on May 30, 2011. A fund was founded in his name to offer financial support for seniors wanting to continue their education at the collegiate level, and help to support underprivileged kids who want the opportunity to attend educational or athletic camps during the summer. This fund has contributed 10 scholarships to Kings students to help with college expenses.
To help support this fund, an annual benefit golf outing is held yearly. This year’s tournament, the 7th Annual, will take place Saturday, June 2 at the Golf Center at Kings Island.
