Kings is excited to share the news that Emily McMahon and Andrew Kerstein graduated from the Pathways Program.
Pathways to Employment is a transition program for students with disabilities ages 18-22 which offers a variety of supports and services needed to prepare students to live and work in their community. The program provides individualized instruction in the community focused on functional academics and daily living skills such as: budgeting, shopping, travel training, safety, time management, cooking, self-advocacy, socializing, etc. Several short term work experiences (2-3 months per work experience) are provided in the community to learn work skills and determine which work field is best suited to each student’s skills and interests.

2017-2018 Kings Special Education Profile
|
|
Every year, each school district receives a Special Education Profile displaying the district's performance on key indicators established by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). Some of the indicators measure procedures compliance with IDEA, while others measure results for students with disabilities.
The design of the Special Education Profile helps districts facilitate continuous improvement in their special education programs with longitudinal data. The organization of data is around four key questions that assess kindergarten readiness, achievement levels, preparedness for life beyond high school, and services for children with disabilities.
Each district's 2017-18 Special Education Profile is now available to the public. To learn more visit the
Special Education Department

KHS Students Earn Top Honor for Community Service
|
|
Community Service is an important component of education at Kings High School. Students are required to perform at least 50 community service hours and complete a reflection piece to presented at Senior Reflection Night in order to graduate.
The mission of the Community Service Program at KHS states, "The The Kings Service Program aims to build responsible and caring citizens, to strengthen the relationship between the Kings Local Schools and the community in which we educate young people, and to foster learning through service.”
This year,
Innerview.org
was used to keep track of our high school students' volunteer hours. We are proud to announce that Kings High School was awarded the top award, the Ruby Award for completing more than 15,000 service hours. Individual students also received awards based on the number of hours they logged.
The awards program honors students, groups, and schools at both the high school and underg
raduate level. It demonstrates student leadership, momentum, and engagement in service activities that positively impact our communities as well as progress toward the UN Global Goals.
Congratulations to the hard-working students of KHS who gave back to our community in the tune of over 23,500 community service hours this school year!

SLE Says Goodbye to Mr. W
|
|
On Monday, May 21, the staff and students surprised Mr. Winebrenner with a bittersweet goodbye assembly. Mr. Winebrenner will be moving to Columbia Intermediate School next year to serve as the school Guidance Counselor.
Each class shared a slide about what they appreciated about Mr. W. Some of the things they mentioned were "his great ties," "going on a bear hunt," and the way he says, "Goooooooooo, Knights!"
He was especially surprised when his wife, son, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter came to celebrate with him! Good luck, Mr. Winebrenner!
Thank you to SLE Kindergarten teacher, Mary Reece for the great memory picture!

The 2nd Annual Cody Mayo Foundation Golf Scramble will take place on Saturday, June 30 at Walden Ponds starting at noon.
The Cody Mayo Fund was created by a community member 7 years ago. It was created in honor of Cody Mayo, a KJH student who died from cancer in his eighth-grade year. Although his cancer was advanced, he went to Washington, D.C, with his friends. The character and strength he showed through this ordeal was nothing short of heroic.
The Washington D.C. trip was one of the last things Cody was able to enjoy. Kings Junior High School now collects money in Cody's name to provide scholarships for students who might not otherwise have an opportunity to take this trip get to go.
Recently, were were notified that the tour company in charge of the 8th grade Washington, D.C. trip closed their doors leaving hundreds of Ohio students and parents who paid for trips, in a bind. KJH is thankful for the Cody Mayo Foundation for the fund they have created to make the Washington, D.C. trip available to all students. If you would like to donate to the Cody Mayo Foundation, send your check to Kings Junior High School.

Summer Reading Volunteers Needed
|
|
Joshua's Place has partnered with the staff and teachers at South Lebanon Elementary to host a fun and creative reading program called "Joshua's Place Summer Reading Lab."
Joshua's Place strives to help the children in our community with their reading skills throughout the school year with their Whiz Kid program. They hope to help keep these students' momentum going and don't want them to lose any ground they may have gained just because it is summer.
They have identified over 50 students who will be part of the Reading Lab and are looking for volunteers willing to come and spend an hour reading with the kids. This will not be a one on one tutoring session. The kids will be grouped according to grade level.
The reading lab will be held on Wednesdays throughout the summer from 10:30 to 11:30. The first reading lab will be June 13 and our last lab will be July 25. (We would not meet on July 4th.
)
You do not need to commit to the entire summer.
Even if you can only volunteer one week, they would be happy to have you!
This is a great oppo
rtunity for high school kids to get community service hours.

Dave Segrist Annual Golf Outing
|
|
Former Kings teacher and coach Dave Segrist lost his battle with pancreatic cancer on May 30, 2011. A fund was founded in his name to offer financial support for seniors wanting to continue their education at the collegiate level, and help to support underprivileged kids who want the opportunity to attend educational or athletic camps during the summer. This fund has contributed 10 scholarships to Kings students to help with college expenses.
To help support this fund, an annual benefit golf outing is held yearly. This year’s tournament, the 7th Annual, will take place Saturday, June 2 at the Golf Center at Kings Island.
