It's been a great summer! Our summer staff has worked hard to get our buildings in tip-top shape for our students to return. Talking about students, we have a lot. Our latest enrollment numbers show an increase of nearly 300 more students than last year! This growth has brought our first class over 400. This year's Kindergarten class of 2031 as of today, is at 406.
In fact, this year's enrollment has surpassed the enrollment predictions given by Decision Insite by nearly 100 students. Decision Insite is a company that specializes in school enrollment predictions. Our District Administrators and Long Range Facility Planning Team have been assessing the growth and how it will affect the future of the district.
"We are excited to welcome our new students to the district," said Kings Superintendent, Tim Ackermann. "The increase in enrollment is a good problem to have because it speaks highly of the excellent school district we have," he said.
Stay tuned for next week when we release the results of the last Thoughtexchange and our next steps for our long range plans.

District Schedule Changes for 2018-2019
|
|
This school year brings some schedule changes for the district. We will no longer utilize our Wednesday Early Release Days. Instead, we have added two additional Inservice Days to our calendar.
Another change to our schedule will affect our high school and junior high students. Beginning this school year, the starting time for Kings High School and Kings Junior High School will begin one half hour later than last year. The new starting time will be 7:50 a.m. The late start time will not affect school closing time. That time will remain the same at 2:26 p.m.
Studies have shown delaying the start of school can have a dramatic impact on a teen's health and performance.
Our first day of school for students in grades 1-12 is Wednesday, August 13. Our Kindergarten class of 2031 will begin classes on Friday, August 17.

Kings Joins Ohio Checkbook Program
|
|
The Kings Local School District has enrolled in the Ohio Checkbook Program through the Ohio Treasurer's Office.
In December 2014, Treasurer, Josh Mandel launched OhioCheckbook.com, which puts all state spending information on the internet. Kings is the third school district in Warren County to post their spending on OhioCheckbook.com.
“I believe the people of Warren County have a right to know how their tax money is being spent, and I applaud local leaders here for partnering with my office to post the finances on OhioCheckbook.com,” said Treasurer Mandel. “By posting local government spending online, we are empowering taxpayers across Ohio to hold public officials accountable.”
“The Kings LSD is proud to enhance our financial transparency by joining OhioCheckbook.com,” said Cary Furniss, Kings Treasurer. “The site will increase the access to financial information for our residents and help them understand how their tax dollars are being spent. The process to create this site was simple, straightforward, and required a very small amount of staff time with the help of Treasurer Mandel’s office.”

There has been a lot of excitement around the Kings district recently. The teachers have been in their classrooms getting ready for their students’ arrival for the first day of school next week. The Teaching and Learning Teams from each school building have held meetings, and many of our staff have attended Professional Development seminars this summer to be ready for the school year. Additionally, all schools buildings have been welcoming students back from summer break with special events and fee pay days.
Our Human Resources Department has been busy filling staff positions throughout this summer. Nineteen new teachers join us this school year, as well as dozens of aides and support staff. Be sure to give these new staff members a warm Knight welcome when you see them!

Kings Kloset Open Saturday
|
|
The Kings Kloset is a student-led non-profit clothing center that provides free garments and supplies to those in need within the Kings Local School District. On average, the Kings Kloset serves 30-50 individuals a month.
They held a "Stuff the Bus" event last weekend and received an OVERWHELMING response! The Kings community donated clothing, school supplies, and personal care items that filled an entire Kings bus! A large donation of food was dropped off at the Kings Food Pantry, as well. The Kings Kloset Staff, including Student Ambassadors, Sofia Milazzo and Sydney Manis would like to thank the Kings Community for their outpouring of donations. The Kloset is STUFFED with school supplies and clothing.
The Kings Kloset will be open Saturday, August 11 from 9:00 -11:00 a.m. to distribute school supplies and clothing to any Kings students/families in need of assistance. The volunteer staff has also put in countless hours this summer reorganizing and restocking their shelves full of gently used clothing that need a new home. They are located on the second floor of the Kings Education Center.
Donations of gently used, in-style clothing are accepted any time the Kloset is open or you can drop donations off at the KEC during normal business hours. Learn more about Kings Kloset and get their open dates open

Parent/Student Emergency Notification Protocol
|
|
The Kings Local School District takes the safety and security of our staff and students very seriously. As a part of an Ohio Revised Code requirement, the District is required to inform students and parents/guardians before the first day of school each year of our emergency parental notification protocols.
In the event of an emergency where an evacuation of the school building is necessary, we have identified off-site locations (reunification sites) to transport students to safety. In emergency situations, we will disseminate information through our All-Call system, as well as use email, text messages, website, and district social media. Additionally, we will continue to provide updates through the above avenues as needed.
The Kings Local School District believes it is as important for parents to know the resources the district will use in the event of an emergency. It should be noted that an evacuation from any given campus may cause your children to be picked up at a secondary location. If this circumstance occurs, we will utilize a parent reunification form to reunite you with your child.
We will ask parents to be sure that their emergency contact information is up to date in our files in order to be contacted in case of emergency. Feel free to check your account in School Messenger for accuracy, as well.
A Reunification Information Document
will be used in the event of an emergency where a reunification process is required. This document will assist us in releasing your child to you at the reunification site. Please take some time to fill out the form and put it in a safe place in your vehicle to be used as necessary.
