Long Range Facility Education Series
|
|
The Kings Local School District is in the master planning process to address the enrollment growth that has begun to affect building capacities. Please watch the first episode of the Kings Long Range Planning Educational Series that is an introduction and overview of the planning process.
Each month, a new topic regarding the master planning process will be addressed including historical and projected enrollment, bond issues, building costs, enrollment impact on operations, etc.
It is very important to the District that our community is informed. Please feel free to pass this video to your neighbors who may not have children in the District. If you have any questions regarding the master planning process, please contact Kings Superintendent, Tim Ackermann at

Hope Squad Coming to Kings
|
|
Kings Schools, in partnership with the Greater Cincinnati Grant Us Hope Organization, will be bringing Hope Squad to students at Kings High School and Kings Junior High School this year. Hope Squad is an evidence-based suicide prevention program that teaches students, staff, and community members to recognize the signs of suicide and equips them with the tools to connect at-risk students with appropriate mental health resources. The Hope Squad initiative will launch at Kings High School and Kings Junior High in January 2019.
The community is invited to learn about Hope Squad from its founder, Dr. Greg Hudnall. The community meeting will be held in the Kings High School Auditorium on October 9 at 7:00 p.m. Dr. Hudnall will share what inspired him to start Hope Squad in Utah, and the importance of implementing Hope Squads in schools around the country.
We encourage parents and guardians of KHS and KJH students to attend and learn about the Hope Squad nomination process and details about how students may become involved.
The Hope Squad at KHS and KJH will be supported by trained staff members, KHS Counselor, Heidi Murray and KJH Counselors Megan Apple and Erin Hackman.
Kings is happy to be among more than 20 schools in the Greater Cincinnati area to implement this national school-based peer-to-peer suicide prevention program. Grant Us Hope Executive Director, Dr. Keith Kline presented the Hope Squad program to our staff during Inservice Day on Friday, September 21, pictured below.

Warren County Workforce Development
|
|
The United Way of Warren County has partnered with companies and 6 school districts in Warren County to create a Workforce Development Initiative. The initiative will help provide the connections necessary to improve the skills and knowledge of Warren County residents so they are sufficiently prepared for employment in many outstanding businesses in Warren County.
The Kings Local School District will participate in this initiative that will help provide opportunities for soon to be and recent high school students. These include connections to good paying jobs, information about various career opportunities, and access to low or no cost training and education options.
This week, Kings Superintendent, Tim Ackermann participated in a panel discussion at the Area Progress Council of Warren County's Innovation in Warren County luncheon. The panel included representatives from the United Way of Warren County, Sinclair Community College, and ADVICS.
The District is excited to join in this initiative that will give students another pathway option after graduation. Stay tuned for more information in this initiative.

September Staff In-Service Day
|
|
Our Kings Staff was busy on Friday, September 21 at their first in-service day of the year. Our staff members had the opportunity to participate in different sessions covering subjects such as trauma training, cultural competency, suicide prevention, anxiety in children, behaviors in the classroom, CPR training, Google Classroom, crisis prevention training, and more.
It was a great day of learning!

Last week, the preschoolers in Mrs. Combs' class participated in a week full of STEM activities in anticipation of Curiosity Day on September 15.
The preschoolers were curious all week as they learned about ramps, color mixing, water drops, and what a scientist does.

As many of our students in the District have been doing, fifth grade students on Team Positive at Columbia Intermediate School have been observing caterpillars turn into butterflies. The students have been learning about their life cycle, making observations and inferences on the habitats, and learning about their migration and butterflies' roles in our ecosystem.
They also learned how people are trying to help this threatened species and how environmental factors may contribute to their population loss.
Pictured is Sydney Coyan with Shannon Russell from Mother Nature's Classroom, LLC, who came and tagged the butterflies who were ready to fly south!

KHS Students Participate in Youth Summit
|
|
The Violence Free Coalition of Warren County and the Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition hosted the 3rd Annual Youth Summit at Rivers Crossing Community Church on Friday, September 14, 2018.
Student leaders from Warren County schools, including Kings, who actively participate in the Teen Alliance Council of Warren County, created and facilitated their own lessons during break-out sessions to approximately 100 freshman students. The topics included advocating drug free lives, healthy relationships, and anti-bullying among peers.
Kings High School sent 20 freshman students who were chosen to help lead the way in promoting mental health wellness. The Coalitions focused on freshmen this year as data shows that there is a huge shift between the 8th and 9th grade years regarding choices and behaviors, many situations that require decision making as they enter their high school years.
