For the second year in a row, Kings Mills Elementary is hosting a program called Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students). The program is through the National Center for Fathering and supports getting male figures to volunteer at schools.
Last Friday, August 31, KME held the kick-off for the program with Donuts with Dudes. The KME Cafeteria was jam-packed with students and their male role models enjoying breakfast together and learning more about the program.
Twice a month there are D.O.G.S. at KME working with students, emptying recycling, working recess and car duty, helping Mrs. Rosekrans with announcements, and passing out rewards.
KME Principal, Shawn Rosekrans said, “Last year was so successful. The students really look forward to the Dogs being at school. I feel honored to have this great program at KME."

Parent Presentation on Social Media
|
|
Kings Junior High PTO is sponsoring a
PARENTS ONLY
event about social media safety. Keeping our students safe and staying ahead of digital media curve presents a continuous challenge for all.
In this PARENTS ONLY presentation called "Social Media: Your Digital Tattoo," Mr. Stephen Smith will provide very valuable information to parents in an effort to help their students to become more aware of their presence online and how to protect themselves. Mr. Smith is best known for his very informative website/magazine,
A Wired Family
and for his previous work with Cincinnati Bell.
This very informative opportunity to learn more about keeping your student safe on social media will take place on Monday, September 10 at 6:00 p.m. in the Kings High School Auditorium. KJH students will see Mr. Smith's presentation in an assembly on Monday morning. All are welcome.

The staff at Columbia Intermediate School are committed to the Kings Local School District’s efforts to Relate, Create, and Innovate.
This year, they are introducing a program called Round Table XL. The program will allow the fifth and sixth graders at CIS to work together with their grade-level peers each Wednesday afternoon during a common time known at Columbia as “Round Table.”
Traditionally, Round Table has been the time each day during which students had enrichment and intervention opportunities. Round Table time has been an effective tool for Columbia’s staff to meet the diverse learning needs of their students.
Knowing that this year teachers would have an
additional hour on Wednesday afternoons due to the elimination of Early Release,
Columbia’s Innovation Committee worked together during the 2017-18 school year to expand upon the existing Round Table program, with an emphasis on UPvention activities. It was during this time that Round Table XL was born.
In addition to the great things happening in the classrooms at Columbia, Round Table XL will focus exclusively on UPvention activities which are engaging, hands-on experiences that introduce and expand upon Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM-themed) topics. All of Columbia’s students will use this time to work together on innovative enrichment projects.
Karen Wiley, I-Time teacher said, "The staff at Columbia is excited to continue our tradition of meeting the needs of all of our students, and know that the enrichment activities during Round Table XL will quickly become meaningful learning opportunities for our students!"
Pictured below are students enjoying the first Round Table XL of the year on Wednesday, September 5.
