2018 Measure CC Supported Services
|
On December 21, 2017, the East Bay Regional Park District Board of Directors approved the 2018 budget which embodies the mission of the East Bay Regional Park District to preserve natural and cultural resources, and provide open space, parks, trails, recreation, and environmental education in Alameda and Contra Costa counties.
The 2018 budget also authorized annual expenditures for Measure CC, which was passed by Oakland, Berkeley, Richmond, Alameda, San Pablo, El Cerrito, Albany, Emeryville and Piedmont voters in 2014 to fund critical infrastructure, maintenance, safety, and park services.
2018 Measure CC supported budget items include:
- Keeping Crab Cove Visitor Center open year-round.
- McLaughlin Eastshore State Park (Albany Beach) wetland restoration, public access improvments, and San Francisco Bay Trail extension.
- Martin Luther King Jr. Regional Shoreline marsh cleanup and clapper rail habitat enhancement.
- Martin Luther King Jr. Regional Shoreline trail safety, operations, and maintenance.
- Crown Memorial State Beach trail safety, operations, and maintenance.
- McLaughlin Eastshore State Park trail safety, operations, and maintenance.
- Wildfire hazard reduction.
- Ongoing staffing for public safety, fuels management, and environmental stewardship.

Big Things Happening in Pinole
|
|
A new 1/2-mile segment of the San Francisco Bay Trail is under construction in Pinole, including a 1,100-foot gradually sloping bridge over the Union Pacific Railroad tracks.
The project is being constructed by the East Bay Regional Park District and closes one of four remaining gaps in the Bay Trail along San Pablo Bay - with two of the other three in the design and permitting stage. Once complete, the project will have huge benefits for West Contra Costa County residents with expanded recreation opportunities and transportation options.
Funding for the project comes from many sources, including Measure WW which was passed by Park District voters in 2008 to expand East Bay parks, trails, and open space. The District was able to use Measure WW funds to attract significant external resources for the project. Over 70% of the funding for the project came from external federal, state and regional sources – saving local taxpayers millions.
The project is expected to be complete in June. The bridge was designed to accommodate walkers, hikers, cyclists, and people with disabilities.

Community Enjoying Improvements at Point Pinole Regional
Shoreline Thanks to Measure CC

In 2017 the East Bay Regional Park District dedicated two important projects at Point Pinole Regional Shoreline in Richmond. The Dotson Family Marsh, which provides enhanced public access and elevated trails, and the new Atlas Road Bridge, which provides an additional entrance to the shoreline park.
The Point Pinole improvement projects represent the biggest ever investment in Park District history. The total public investment in the Point Pinole projects, including funding from other agencies, was over $46 million.
Specific improvements include new shoreline walking, hiking and biking trails, new restrooms, and two new park entrances with parking.
Both the Dotson Family Marsh and Atlas Road Bridge project were funded in part by Measure CC, which was approved by East Bay voters in 2004. Measure CC was approved by voters in Oakland, Berkeley, Richmond, Alameda, San Pablo, El Cerrito, Albany, Emeryville, and Piedmont. Measure CC is set to expire soon.

Park District Announces 2018 Board of Directors Officers
|
|
The East Bay Regional Park District Board of Directors has inducted new leaders for 2018. Dennis Waespi of Castro Valley will serve as president; Ayn Wieskamp of Livermore will serve as vice president; Ellen Corbett of Hayward will serve as treasurer; and Dee Rosario of Oakland will serve as secretary. The additional Board members are Whitney Dotson of Richmond, Beverly Lane of Danville, and Colin Coffey of Hercules. Leadership positions rotate annually.
Waespi, elected to the Board in 2014, was an employee of the Park District for 36 years before retiring in 2016. He’s also served on the boards of the Castro Valley Sanitary District and Hayward Area Recreation and Park District.

Improvements at Contra Loma Regional Park Coming Soon!
|
|
So much progress! Contra Loma Regional Park's boat launch facility is being renovated with new restrooms, paved parking, new sidewalks, a new fish cleaning station, and a repaired boat ramp. All of these improvements are almost complete! The renovated facilities are scheduled to be re-open this spring.

Thank you to those that attend our 2018 Youth Job Fairs in Livermore and Richmond. This was our biggest and best year yet.
Over 500 attendees learned about working for the District and the positions available, including Interpretive Student Aide, Public Safety Student Aide, Recreation Leader, Lifeguard, Gate Attendant, Park Services Attendant, Student Laborer, Field Intern, Intern and Volunteer positions.
The East Bay Regional Park District is the largest employer of youth in the East Bay, hiring over 400 Bay Area youth each year to work in the District's 73 regional parks and 10 visitor centers. Hiring for summer seasonal positions is already underway!

Get Healthy With 2018 Trails Challenge - New App Available
|
|
This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Park District's signature outdoor activity program, the Trails Challenge. Launched in 1993 as a way to get East Bay residents moving outdoors and exploring their trails, the program makes it easy for hikers of all abilities to get to know and love their Regional Parks. Hikes range from easy to challenging. There are trails open to hikers, bicyclists, dogs, and equestrians, and many are wheelchair accessible.
This year, all 20 trails are featured on the
FREE mobile app AllTrails
. To use the app, participants need to (1) download the app, (2) sign-up and log in, (3) go to https://www.alltrails.com/lists/trails-challenge-2018, (4) click on “Copy to my lists”, and (5) then click "Continue in App". The featured trails will show under 'Lists' in 'Plan'.

San Leandro's Chabot Park Re-Opening
|
|
The City of San Leandro is pleased to announce the re-opening of Chabot Park to the public, effective at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, February 9, 2018.
Due to weather/muddy conditions, not all amenities will be functional when the park re-opens (such as the disc golf course and horseshoe pits).
Chabot Park is located near Estudillo Avenue and Sylvan Circle in San Leandro - not far from Lake Chabot Regional Park.
