Proposition 68 on June 5 Ballot
|
|
On October 15, Governor Jerry Brown signed SB 5 placing the California Drought, Water, Parks, Climate, Coastal Protection, and Outdoor Access For All Act of 2018 (Proposition 68) on the June 5, 2018 ballot. Proposition 68 includes $2.83 billion for parks and natural resources, $720 million for water resources, and $550 million for flood protection.
If approved by California voters, Proposition 68 would provide significant funding for grants to local agencies like the East Bay Regional Park District. The bond also includes $200 million in grants that would be distributed on a per capita basis throughout California so that all communities benefit. For more information visit

New Castleridge Trailhead Open at Pleasanton Ridge
|
|
On March 10, the East Bay Regional Park District dedicated the newly-completed
Castleridge Trailhead at Pleasanton Ridge Regional Park – significantly increasing public access to the popular park.
The new
Castleridge trailhead will serve as an important public access point for users with expanded park ridgeline trail access from the northern side of the park. The trailhead’s amenities include street parking for up to 50 vehicles, a drinking water fountain, accessible restroom, and gated access serving two neighboring communities. The project is a joint partnership between the Park District and the City of Pleasanton. A multi-use trail extends from the trailhead to the northern ridgeline of Pleasanton Ridge.

The East Bay Regional Park District has been named the
2018 Legacy Award Winner by East Bay Economic Development Alliance. The Legacy Award recognizes organizations with a history of groundbreaking innovation in the East Bay.
As the largest regional park agency in the United States, East Bay Regional Park District leaders have been innovating since its founding in 1934 in the depths of the Great Depression. In fact, it was during this tumultuous time that visionary leaders in Oakland and Berkeley initiated a campaign to tax themselves to create the park system – the very first of many innovations by the East Bay Regional Park District.

Extended Mine Tours Now Available at Black Diamond Mines!
|
|
Completion of an underground stairway, and other safety improvements, have been finished at Antioch’s
Black Diamond Mines, allowing for a new and longer underground tour of the mines. Tours can now follow a continuous loop from the Hazel-Atlas entrance to the underground Greathouse Visitor Center. Before, visitors would have to stop after 1,000 feet and backtrack, exiting and entering the museum through a separate entrance.
Tours are available to the public weekends through November for $5 per person with advance reservations . View available dates online and register online at ebparks.org or by telephone at 888-327-2757 (Option 2). For safety reasons, tour participants must be 7 years old or older.

Measure CC Restoration Roundup
|
|
Measure CC has restored or enhanced over 1,142 acres of natural wildlife habitat throughout the 20 parks in the Measure CC area, including habitat for endangered species like burrowing owls (above).

Big Break Visitor Center Receives ‘Friends of Education’ Award from Delta Charter of the Association of California School Administrators
|
|
Delta Charter of the Association of California School Administrators has awarded the Big Break Visitor Center their “Friends of Education” award for 2017-2018. The “Friends of Education” award recognizes contributions by local non-school groups and individuals that are making a big impact in their region.
The award is recognition of the value of the District’s interpretive and recreational programs, and that they offer much more than a typical field trip. Specifically, the award recognizes Big Break Visitor Center’s all day, station by station, Science Weeks program that provides school children an immersive experience with nature and science.

The population increase over the last two centuries has dramatically changed the face of the land, placing many wildlife species and their habitats in jeopardy. Our responsibility is to manage and promote the healthy balance of all native wildlife.
