Regional Parks Free Again on Green Friday
|
|
This year marks the Park District’s fourth annual “Green Friday” where the Park District makes Regional Parks FREE the day after Thanksgiving to encourage residents to connect with nature rather than shop.
There's no better and healthier way to spend time with family and friends than getting outside and experiencing nature together.
The Park District’s Green Friday is part of the “#OptOutside” movement started in 2015 by REI when they closed their doors on Black Friday to encourage employees and the public to explore the outdoors. For more info visit,

About Measure FF:
Measure FF is a $1/month ($12/year) parcel tax extension measure. It does not change or increase tax rates.

Interpretive Pavilion Coming Soon to Shadow Cliffs
|
|
Plans have been approved and finalized for a new 1,000 square foot open-air, outdoor interpretive pavilion at Shadow Cliffs Regional Recreation Area in Pleasanton – complete with educational exhibits highlighting the natural and cultural history of the park, as well as the recreational opportunities available in the park's wilderness area.
The Nature Pavilion will also serve as a shaded and weather-protected gathering spot for school children that visit year-round on field trips to learn about nature and participate in naturalist-lead walking tours of the wilderness area.
The nature pavilion is being made possible by state and non-profit grants and individual donations, with the remainder funded by the Park District. The Pavilion groundbreaking is scheduled for April 2019.

Park District Wildlife Experts and Volunteers Assisting with Peregrine Falcon Project

Over the past years, the Park District’s environmental stewardship staff has been assisting with efforts to preserve nesting peregrine falcons at UC Berkeley’s Campanile balcony. In 2017 two peregrine falcons were observed nesting on the Campanile high in the air above the UC Berkeley campus. The falcons’ hatching of 2 offspring that year was closely observed by UC Berkely and the District, as well as well as local bird enthusiasts. This past spring the pair had three more offspring. Peregrine falcons are the fastest animal in the world.
“For the past two years Park District staff and volunteers have help observe the falcon’s health as they nested and closely followed the hatching and fledging of their offspring,” said East Bay Regional Park District Wildlife Program Manager Doug Bell. “This year we hope to add webcams to the Campanile to observe future offspring up close in real time, rather than from a distance.”

Regional Parks foundation memberships provide a host of benefits, including unlimited day-use parking, an annual dog pass, free swimming during swim season, and camping discounts. Memberships are easier than ever to purchase because they are now available at select park kiosks.
Lake Chabot, Roberts, and Quarry Lakes are the most popular locations to sign up for membership, but Ardenwood, Contra Loma, Coyote Hills, Shadow Cliffs, Sunol, and Tilden also offer membership on site. Membership benefits are available immediately upon purchase.
Memberships can be purchased at Bay Area REI stores in Berkeley, Concord, Dublin, Fremont and San Francisco, as well.
