"I Have Called YOU by Name"

Dear Hodges family,

As we begin this new year, I do so with much gratitude for sooooooo many things, and it is my strong desire to keep an outlook of positivity and gratitude this year, one day at a time. As we begin, I cannot help but reflect upon the many folks in this church family who do so much, do it selflessly, and do it joyfully. I want to be sure that we are recognizing those who give of themselves as living examples of Christ in the world. So, as the calendar has turned, I would encourage you to take special notice of the helpers among us, and express your thanks for the ways they serve.

Now, having said all that, there is one very special group of people I want to give a special shout out to for the AMAZING way they all helped with the Christmas Eve service. For those of you who attended that night, you surely noticed that ALL the scripture readings, and even the special solo of “O Holy Night,” were all done by young people in our congregation – and they were FANTASTIC!!! They made me so profoundly grateful to have had their help, and I’m sure there were some mighty proud moms and dads in the congregation! Sooooo, without further adieu, I would like to give thanks for and lift up the following youth:
Austin Zalusky
Philip Wright
Sebastian Phillips
Ryan Seiler
Kirsten Seeley
All these young people were expertly prepared and I’m certain I’m not the only one whose heart swelled with delight as they served the Lord by serving the Hodges Church on a very, very momentous night. Please let them all know how appreciative you are!

The other group I’d like to acknowledge is all our Charter Members who so graciously served as Advent Candle Lighters this year. What a joy it was to see such long-time members continuing to serve God in this place! So, another shout out to the following:
Herb and Jane Ramsdell
The Robinson Family
The Harkness Family
Ed and Beryl Johnson
Chuck and Alice Harper
The Ross Family
Mike and Cathy Steve
Thank you to all of you for your faithful contributions year after year after year. We are grateful and we are blessed by you!

Maybe an attitude of gratitude is a wonderful way to start the new year, for as scripture reminds us …
… give thanks in all circumstances;
for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
(1 Thessalonians 5:18)
Blessings on you and on the new year before you!

Living the Questions

The name of this session is called Compassion: The Heart of Jesus’ Ministry  The focus is that Jesus was not primarily a teacher of correct beliefs or right morals. He was a teacher of a way that transforms people from legalistic rule-followers into compassionate disciples who put people first.  This session will be led by Debbie Abbott in the Sunrise Room.

Bibles & Bagels
Men! Come, learn, and explore what
 Presbyterians believe!

Bagels and Bibles, the early Wednesday morning men’s study group, is starting a new 9-week study using the book “Being Presbyterian in the Bible Belt.” We are beginning this study Wednesday, January 9, at 7:00 a.m. Through reading and discussing questions of faith, we will be able to more clearly understand and state to others, perhaps outside our faith, what it means to be a Presbyterian.

Join us early morning, mid-week for bagels, coffee, some energizing discussions and Christian fellowship in the Fellowship Hall. We will have you out and on your way by 8:00 a.m. You are sure to be blessed!

It’s a great time for new beginnings!

Starting January 9th, we will begin a new Bible study called Present Over Perfect: Leaving Behind Frantic for a Simpler, More Soulful Way of Living by Shauna Niequist.

This book was a sweet soul-whisper, and an invitation to reconnect with God and loved ones. I’m no longer on that crazy hamster wheel.  I’m walking a more "in the present" path, with the ladies in our Bible Study by my side and more importantly-Jesus. I invite you to join us.

All the materials will be provided and lots of love shared.  If you have any questions, text or call me, Nicole, at (904) 566-0945.
