Dear Hodges family,
Your office staff is very, very busily planning and preparing for officer training this weekend, the congregational and corporation meetings on Sunday, as well as the ordination and installation of officers in worship. There are SO many exciting things going on around here! Suffice it to say that there is a
lot
of very important information in this week’s edition of the Eblast, so please be sure and read ALL the way to the end … that way you can be sure not to miss a single thing! In the midst of all this, we would certainly covet your prayers.
Be still, and know that I am God!!
(Psalm 46:10)
I look forward to seeing you on Sunday, and indeed, every time we gather in worship of God!
In Christ’s service,

A Message from Your Session
After prayerful consideration at a called meeting on Sunday, February 3, the session believed it prudent for the safety of the congregation that we notify a recent visitor, who is a convicted sexual offender, that it would be best that he worship elsewhere. Florida law typically states that convicted sexual predators may not be within 250 feet of any place where children gather regularly. At least one other church in our presbytery has taken similar action in regards to this person for the safety of their congregation, as well. For additional information, please refer to this link:

Our annual congregational meeting is scheduled for Sunday, February 10, at 10:00 a.m., in the sanctuary. The purpose of this meeting will be to receive the 2018 Annual Report, to receive the 2019 budget, to amend the church bylaws, to elect corporate officers, and to elect new elders. There will also be a presentation regarding the sanctuary repairs immediately following the meeting, to include fundraising information. Please plan to be with us for this very important meeting!
There will be no Sunday School but child care is available during the meeting for children through 5th grade.
|
|
Please be aware it is likely this Sunday will be our last time to worship in the sanctuary for the next 6-8 weeks. Sanctuary repairs are scheduled to begin the following week. Worship will be moved to the Fellowship Hall until the repairs are complete.
Please be mindful that while the Fellowship Hall is set up for worship, activities that are usually held there should be moved elsewhere until the repairs are complete.

2019 Elder Nominations
Mary Alderman
I was baptized into the Presbyterian Church as an infant at First Presbyterian Church in Gainesville, FL and raised there while also attending a non-denominational church in Gainesville with friends through high school. Like many people I know, I didn’t make time to connect with a new church family while away at school and it wasn’t until I returned home to Gainesville after college, medical School and residency training, that I began attending church regularly again. In part due to a significant personal loss, I recognized there was an emptiness in my life that God was calling me to let Him fill. My husband and I begin attending church at Highlands Presbyterian Church in Gainesville and found a welcoming home there. I joined an in-home Bible study group and was immediately inspired by my pastor to begin my own path towards discipleship. Since then I have sought out opportunities to learn, grow and serve the Lord as a child of God and member of His church.
I was ordained as an Elder and served Highlands Presbyterian Church. I have always found joy in praising God through music and was a faithful choir member in Gainesville and here at Hodges after our move to Jacksonville in 2005. At Hodges, I was ordained and served as a Deacon for 6 years. I have been a member of the HBPC Presbyterian Women since joining the church. I am an active participant in the Evening Circle and served on the PW coordinating team as Secretary, Vice-Moderator and Moderator. I have assisted with Sunday school and had the pleasure to chaperone many TWEEN and Youth Group activities through the years. A highlight of my faith journey was the opportunity travel with a mission team from our church to Galveston, Texas to do Hurricane relief work.
Over the years the Lord has provided me with many opportunities to grow in my relationship with Him and as I am now called to serve this church as an Elder, I feel blessed to be given yet another opportunity. Thank you for your prayers and support as I strive to be the Hands and Feet of our Lord in this role.
Wezi Olivia Blunt
joined Hodges Boulevard Presbyterian Church in June 2014 after moving with her family from Arlington, Texas. Wezi was asked to serve on the board of Deacons for a 3 year term beginning January 2016 through December 2018. She is currently serving on the PNC and took on the role of Secretary in February 2018.
Wezi has a very profound analytical skill set and possesses a high degree of integrity. She enjoys analyzing financial statements of companies and occasionally keeps up with the stock market. Wezi is currently working as an Operations Analyst at Merrill Lynch and completed her Six Sigma Green Belt Certification in Project Management.
Born in Malawi and raised in Zimbabwe, Wezi moved to Texas in August 2004 to pursue her post high school education. She attained her Associates Degree in Liberal Arts at Northlake College in Irving, Texas and graduated with a BA in Management at the University of Texas at Arlington. Wezi is married to Thomas Blunt and together they share two sons: Dante and Gabe who are such a joy to her life. Wezi’s favorite scripture and what she has grown to know as God’s “phone number” is Jeremiah 33:3, “Call to me and I will answer you.”
Jane Ramsdell
and her family are charter members of Hodges Presbyterian. Jane has served on several committees and taught Sunday school through the years. Presbyterian Women have been a large part of Jane’s life. She was moderator of PW at Hodges and for the Presbytery. At Hodges, Jane has served as an elder and a deacon and is a member of the choir. Jane and Herb are both life long residents of Jacksonville where Jane taught school and Herb was a firefighter. They have two daughters and two grandchildren.
Michael Steve
-I am originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, and am a graduate of the University of Cincinnati with a degree in Elementary Education. I entered the Army after college graduation in 1972 and retired as a Major in 1992. I was offered a job as a financial advisor in Jacksonville Beach and moved my family here in February of 1992. We soon heard of a new church development that was meeting at the Captain's Club and became members of what was to become Hodges Boulevard Presbyterian Church in March 1992. I started teaching Sunday School and have taught many classes over the years. I have been honored to serve as an Elder, Clerk of Session, and Moderator of the Deacons, as well as a member of a former Pastor Nominating Committee. I enjoy serving as liturgist for the traditional service. I am retired from my second career in finance, and now enjoy volunteering at the Mayport Golf Club, and as Vice-President of the Friends of the Jacksonville Library, working three days a week at their bookstore. I am happily married to Cathy (41 years in February!), who is also active in our church, and have one daughter, Adrienne, who lives in Ponte Vedra Beach.

Help for Mision Peniel
Our Immokalee Mission group was blessed to help at Mision Peniel on our last afternoon. Look them up at
misionpenielpeaceriver.com
to find out more about the extraordinary work being done in the Peace River Presbytery. On Friday afternoon we served over 500 meals to farm workers and their families and helped distribute clothes, diapers, shoes, books and toys to the little ones. Sadly, there just wasn’t enough for all who came.
Pastor Miguel Estrada, the backbone of Mision Peniel, told us that these people who toil daily to harvest the food that we buy in our grocery stores
don’t have enough to feed and cloth their own families
. We can make a real difference.
We will be collecting the following:
new or gently used children’s pants, shorts, shirts, play shoes and socks
, d
iapers, adult clothes, children’s books and new toys.
A box for collection will be by the front office and in the narthex.
Pat Meredith will deliver them when he is in the area the first week of March. We have 3 weeks to fill his pickup! Please share this information with anyone who might be willing to donate.
For more information, contact Marty Moore at 386-9081 or any of the team Immokalee mission team. Let’s “Pass the Peace” to those in need.
