"Who Wants a Blessing?"

Youth Ministry Vision Summit
For the youth and all who love the youth!

Friday, February 22 from 6:00-9:00 p.m.
Saturday, February 23 from 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.

Please save the dates and plan to join the consultants from Ministry Architects in casting a vision for the youth of HBPC. During this time, we will be creating a Mission Statement and setting values for the youth ministry, as well as three-year goals. Everyone’s voice is important, and the entire congregation is invited to have input in this process!
Dearest Hodges family,

I think we would be close to 100% correct if it was postulated that we don’t like change. Am I right??? There is just something to be said for the comfort that comes with being able to rely on things being the same. In defense of change, though, there are certain things that we do like to see change. Weather is a great example. Now, this doesn’t happen so much in the state of Florida, but if you’ve ever seen the leaves change in the fall … what’s not to love??? If you’ve ever seen the flowers blooming in the spring … what’s not to love??? In fact, God’s creation is in constant motion, changing on a molecular level (an atomic level!!) every moment of every day.

We are in the midst of a big, albeit temporary change, here at the Hodges Church. Beginning THIS Sunday, February 17, our worship services will be in the Fellowship Hall. Some of our members who have been around awhile will recall a time when worship was in there every week … for years? In fact, it has been described to me as “cozy” and “intimate.” That sounds like a positive to me! We will be in a new place temporarily because of the repairs being made in the sanctuary building, which may be annoying, but obviously is for a good reason. In the meantime, I’m sure we’ll have a good time of it and enjoy cozying up to one another!

We had a wonderful, easy-to-understand presentation about the repairs on Sunday following the congregational meeting; I hope you were there to hear it. There was also a one-time-only appeal for pledges toward the cost of the repairs. We would, of course, be grateful for everyone’s participation, no matter how much it is. It will be a terrific investment!

In the meantime, we are figuring out ways to work our meetings and activities around not using the Fellowship Hall for the time being. If you are a committee chair or member, it would be appreciated if you kept this in mind and considered alternative locations for meetings. The Sunrise Room is basically our only meeting space, and it gets scheduled pretty quickly. Please BE SURE and let Kathy know the dates and times of all meetings and activities, so she can make sure we’re not scheduling on top of one another.

Thank you for your faithfulness and support during this time of change! I think Ecclesiastes (3:1, 3b) says it well …

For everything there is a season,
and a time for every matter under heaven:
… a time to break down, and a time to build up.

In Christ’s service,

Update on Nicaragua
Sunday, February 17
10:00 a.m.
Youth Room

In both 2015 and 2017, HBPC had very successful mission trips to Nicaragua with El Porvenir, a U.S. based non-profit which helps poor Nicaraguan farmers with water, sanitation and improved living standards. Lately there has been political unrest in Nicaragua which has prevented us from returning.

Jo Buescher, the Service and Outreach Coordinator for El Porvenir, will provide us with an update on current life in Nicaragua and the ministry of El Porvenir. All are welcome.
  • Youth During Repairs: Due to repair of the sanctuary, the youth Sunday school classes will be held in Rooms 1 (Sr. High) and 4 (Mid-High). Youth group on Sunday evenings will be in the Fellowship Hall.

  • This Sunday, February 17: This week we will meet for Sunday school at the regular time of 10:00 a.m. However, due to the long weekend, there will not be youth group.

  • Mystery Dinner Reminders:
  • Tickets go on sale February 24. Please support the youth at their show on April 27!
  • For Mystery Dinner performers, remember that for the next couple of weeks, you should be working on memorizing Scenes I and II, and collecting your personal props to have ready at the next practice on Sunday, February 24.

  • The next Bake Sale is February 24.

  • Bring a meal to Youth Group! Any and all church members are invited to support the youth group by signing up to bring a meal to Youth Group. Click here to sign up for a date.

Help for Mision Peniel

Our Immokalee Mission group was blessed to help at Mision Peniel on our last afternoon. Look them up at www.misionpeniel.com  to find out more about the extraordinary work being done in the Peace River Presbytery. On Friday afternoon we served over 500 meals to farm workers and their families and helped distribute clothes, diapers, shoes, books and toys to the little ones. Sadly, there just wasn’t enough for all who came.

Pastor Miguel Estrada, the backbone of Mision Peniel, told us that these people who toil daily to harvest the food that we buy in our grocery stores lack the essensials needed for their own families . We can make a real difference.

We will be collecting the following:
New or gently used children’s pants, shorts, shirts, play shoes and socks ,
Diapers (sizes 4, 5 & 6 ONLY)
Small adult clothes
Children’s books
Small stuffed animal or small toys

A box for collections will be by the front office and in the Pre-School.

Please have your donations in by February 28 as we will be delivering them the first week in March. Please share this information with anyone who might be willing to donate.

For more information, contact Marty Moore at 904-386-9081. Let’s “Pass the Peace” to those in need.
