ARE YOU WORKING LEAN? – One of ELECTRI’s industry partners, the Lean Construction Institute (LCI), is conducting a study to find ways to improve lean project outcomes through best practices. LCI is asking our ELECTRI Council members to complete a short survey for this initiative. The goal is to determine the degree to which the design and construction industry is aware of and utilizing the specific project practices in Lean Design and Construction that most frequently correlate to better project outcomes and greater professional satisfaction.
Survey contributors need to be familiar with project outcomes (budget compliance, schedule compliance, etc.) and contracting methods, as well as the processes in which the project team engaged. LCI is reaching out to trade and general contractors, owners, architects, and others with experience with all types of building projects, from commercial to industrial to infrastructure, to participate in the survey. ELECTRI participation will be vital to this project’s success. Participants will receive a copy of the study’s findings and a copy of the LCI Lean Deployment Guide.

NECA Government Affairs -
EV Charging Stations Update (8/16/22)
|
As you all know, EVITP (Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Training Program) is a training program developed by automobile manufacturers, utilities, energy storage device manufacturers, electrical contractors, state and local electrical inspectors, the national fire protection agency and electrical workers that incorporates technical requirements, safety imperatives and performance integrity for the installation of EVSE (Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment or EV charging stations, electric recharging points, charging points). It is a one-of-a-kind, brand neutral, non-profit, national EV industry collaborative training program created by stakeholders in the electric vehicle industry that provides curriculum to Electrical Industry Training Centers and community colleges across the United States on the proper installation of EVSE.
On June 9, 2022, President Biden proposed new standards that will be implemented as part of the new National Electrical Vehicle Charging Network. The administration’s goal is to build 500,000 charging stations across the country and this effort will be funded using the $7.5 billion authorized in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. This first-ever federal investment in EV charging stations is a significant opportunity for all our contractors across America. Accordingly, the IBEW and NECA are participating in the White House’s Talent Pipeline Challenge, which will run through the summer. Per the challenge, we have already trained more than 10,000 total IBEW members to be EVITP certified, with more on the way.
Your continued support is critical to helping exceed the Talent Pipeline Challenge goals. Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committees are encouraged to quickly deploy EVITP and graduate EVITP-certified workers as soon as possible. In addition, it is vital that JATCs report to the IBEW International Office, NECA National Headquarters, the electrical training ALLIANCE, and EVITP when they enroll new students into the program and immediately report graduates. Both objectives are important as a critical mass of EVITP-certified electricians is needed immediately in every state.
