ECA Industry Update

ECA Chicago's 2022 President's Party & Holiday Celebration Saturday, December 17th at OFFSHORE, Navy Pier

ELECTRI International Update: November 7, 2022

ELECTRI has a new 2022 Updated Change Order Guidelines - A Quick Reference Guide. This is a very valuable tool for contractors dealing with any change order issue. Prior negotiation and knowledge of the contract’s terms will aid the flow and process of equitable contract modifications. The single most common area of dispute in the change order process is cost. Among cost-related disputes, items related to recoverable direct costs, overhead-profit %, and impact factors resulting in consequential costs make up the vast majority of the disagreements. The Change Order Guidelines provide a fair and reasonable process for costing/pricing change orders. Here’s the link to the Guide. Also, take time to watch the education session ELECTRI presented at the Convention – Making Change Orders Work for You. Here’s the link to the video.

ELECTRI’s next Council Room (Monday, November 14, 3PM Eastern) will be on ELECTRI’s Materials Management Best Practices Outside of the Gate, research conducted by ELECTRI with Graybar. Project researcher Hala Nassereddine will provide an update on the research and detail the additions made since the NECA Convention. This is your opportunity to hear the latest on this important topic and share your insights with the researcher. This Council Room is ideal for company leaders, superintendents, and project managers. A Zoom invitation from ELECTRI is below:

Know Your Rights: "Workplace Discrimination is Illegal"

Updated Poster -  Reminder

The law requires an employer to post a notice describing the Federal laws prohibiting job discrimination based on race, color, sex (including pregnancy and related conditions, sexual orientation, or gender identity), national origin, religion, age (40 and older), equal pay, disability or genetic information (including family medical history or genetic tests or services), and retaliation for filing a charge, reasonably opposing discrimination, or participating in a discrimination lawsuit, investigation, or proceeding. The “Know Your Rights: Workplace Discrimination is Illegal” poster, prepared by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), summarizes these laws and explains how employees or applicants can file a complaint if they believe that they have experienced discrimination. These posters should be placed in a conspicuous location in the workplace where notices to applicants and employees are customarily posted. In addition to physically posting, covered employers are encouraged to post the notice digitally on their web sites in a conspicuous location. In most cases, electronic posting supplements the physical posting requirement. In some situations (for example, for employers without a physical location or for employees who telework or work remotely and do not visit the employer's workplace on a regular basis), it may be the only posting. The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requires that notices of Federal laws prohibiting job discrimination be made available in a location that is accessible to applicants and employees with disabilities that limit mobility.
