Construction Industry Alliance for Suicide Prevention

It is an unfortunate fact that construction has the highest rate of suicide of any industry in America. We lose about 53 out of every 100,000 members of our industry EVERY YEAR to suicide. We are four times the average of other industries. We have a crisis in construction and we need to do something about it. You can visit the Construction Industry Alliance for Suicide Prevention website and learn more. We urge all to take the pledge to STAND UP for suicide prevention and address it as a health and safety priority.

The official signing ceremony for ELECTRI’s Project Management Apprenticeship took place on November 14 at NECA’s HQ. The electrical construction industry now has a NECA/ELECTRI Project Management Apprenticeship program with standards approved by the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) in July 2023. The new program was recognized in a signing ceremony in celebration of National Apprenticeship Week. Representation at the ceremony included NECA CEO David Long, Kellie Holland, Chair of the ELECTRI International Council, Megan Baird, Deputy Administrator, Office of Apprenticeship, Employment & Training Administration (ETA), U.S. Department of Labor, and Joelle Salerno with the Western PA NECA Chapter.

The DOL-approved guidelines can be used as a roadmap for NECA chapters to create their own Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP) in their state. The structure of the program provides each PM apprentice with real-world experiences over a full year, requiring 2,000 on-the-job training hours and 180-300 related instruction hours online. NECA chapters are encouraged to learn more about the program by visiting ELECTRI.org. If you have questions about this program, please contact [email protected].
