ELECTRI International Update: November 2, 2022

ELECTRI has a new 2022 Updated Change Order Guidelines - A Quick Reference Guide. This is a very valuable tool for contractors dealing with any change order issue. Prior negotiation and knowledge of the contract’s terms will aid the flow and process of equitable contract modifications. The single most common area of dispute in the change order process is cost. Among cost-related disputes, items related to recoverable direct costs, overhead-profit %, and impact factors resulting in consequential costs make up the vast majority of the disagreements. The Change Order Guidelines provide a fair and reasonable process for costing/pricing change orders. Here’s the link to the Guide. Also, take time to watch the education session ELECTRI presented at the Convention – Making Change Orders Work for You. Here’s the link to the video.

ELECTRI’s next Council Room (Monday, November 14, 3PM Eastern) will be on ELECTRI’s Materials Management Best Practices Outside of the Gate, research conducted by ELECTRI with Graybar. Project researcher Hala Nassereddine will provide an update on the research and detail the additions made since the NECA Convention. This is your opportunity to hear the latest on this important topic and share your insights with the researcher. This Council Room is ideal for company leaders, superintendents, and project managers. A Zoom invitation from ELECTRI is to be forthcoming.

YOU HAVE AN INTERN. NOW WHAT? - Workforce development is a pressing topic and ELECTRI is here to help. Zoom into Best Practices for Internships (Wednesday, November 16, 3 PM Eastern). Learn about ELECTRI’s resources and discuss internship challenges and opportunities with industry peers. Have questions? Contact Anna Trapane, ELECTRI’s Director of Future Workforce Development. Reach her at [email protected] or (202) 449-9657. A Zoom Virtual Forum invite will be coming soon from ELECTRI.

NEW INFO EVERY DAY – Join ELECTRI for “Con Tech & Coffee” (Thursday, November 17, 11AM), hosted by Jared Christman, ELECTRI’s Director of Construction Technology. These casual conversations are ideal for your staff to get a better feel for Con Tech opportunities that come across their desk every day. ELECTRI will have a Zoom invitation, coming soon.

A LEADER IS A GATEKEEPER – In this new episode of ELECTRI’s Think Like A Leader, learn how your colleagues in Ontario, Canada approach electrical construction. Graeme Aitken, Executive Director of the Electrical Contractors Association of Ontario, explains leadership as the opportunity to serve as a gatekeeper – bringing technology and workforce issues to the attention of EC contractors throughout the Province. Here’s the link.

Zoom links for the above events are to be provided by ELECTRI. You can contact Laura Holmes at [email protected] for more information.

Know Your Rights: "Workplace Discrimination is Illegal"

Updated Poster -  Reminder

The law requires an employer to post a notice describing the Federal laws prohibiting job discrimination based on race, color, sex (including pregnancy and related conditions, sexual orientation, or gender identity), national origin, religion, age (40 and older), equal pay, disability or genetic information (including family medical history or genetic tests or services), and retaliation for filing a charge, reasonably opposing discrimination, or participating in a discrimination lawsuit, investigation, or proceeding. The “Know Your Rights: Workplace Discrimination is Illegal” poster, prepared by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), summarizes these laws and explains how employees or applicants can file a complaint if they believe that they have experienced discrimination. These posters should be placed in a conspicuous location in the workplace where notices to applicants and employees are customarily posted. In addition to physically posting, covered employers are encouraged to post the notice digitally on their web sites in a conspicuous location. In most cases, electronic posting supplements the physical posting requirement. In some situations (for example, for employers without a physical location or for employees who telework or work remotely and do not visit the employer's workplace on a regular basis), it may be the only posting. The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requires that notices of Federal laws prohibiting job discrimination be made available in a location that is accessible to applicants and employees with disabilities that limit mobility.

IMSCA’s General Counsel, Jim Rohlfing, drafted a document titled, “Impacts and Considerations for Dealing with Section 13.5 to the Wage Payment & Collection Act."   You can click on a link to the document, as it is intended to serve as an informational resource to help IMSCA members further their knowledge of the new law.
