Chicago’s Procurement Services Department to host online Workshop about Construction Contracting on August 27th |
This is a Construction-focused workshop that provides an overview of the bidding process and highlights programs related to construction opportunities. This includes the Small Business Initiative (SBI), Mid-size Business Initiative (MBI), Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), Apprentice Utilization Bid Preference, and many more.
Virtual workshop will be from 2 to 3 p.m.

The Construction Industry Service Corporation (CISCO) will soon be launching two long-standing programs - The Annual Scholarship Awards, as well as its Project of the Year Award. In early September, applications for both programs will be available via the web - www.cisco.org. There are three different scholarship program categories: 1) Four-year college scholarships for high school seniors; 2) Two-year awards for seniors planning on attending a community college; and 3) Two-year continuing education awards to union members or contractor employees. Project of the Year submissions are available in six categories that include new construction, renovation, residential, and infrastructure projects. Fatalities caused by falls from elevation continue to be a leading cause of death for construction employees, accounting for 320 of the 1,008 construction fatalities recorded in 2018 (BLS data). Those deaths were preventable. The National Safety Stand-Down raises fall hazard awareness across the country in an effort to stop fall fatalities and injuries..
OSHA’s Stand-Down webpage offers information on conducting a successful event, and educational resources. Employers are encouraged to provide feedback after their events, and to obtain a personalized certificate of participation.
