ECA News & Events Update
Deadline Approaching:
NECA Recognition of Safety Achievement Program
NECA’s Recognition of Safety Achievement program is an elite safety recognition focused on recognizing thriving companies that excel in multiple areas of their safety and health programs. Member companies that consistently have OSHA recordable injury and fatality rates at levels lower than the industry standard, and implement internal company safety practices above and beyond basic compliance will receive the recognition.

NECA's Safety Recognition program includes two categories:
  • The Zero-Injury recognizes those member-companies that have worked a full calendar year without recordable incidents.
  • The Safety Excellence is the associations premier recognition program, and acknowledges member-contractors safety performance.
When registering contractors will automatically be entered into two Safety Recognition Programs; Zero Injury and Safety Excellence. Winners are selected based on their comparison to BLS data and electrical contractors.

The application deadline is March 1, 2022.

ELECTRI Needs Your Help! - Document Crunch Research -

ELECTRI needs your input on some exciting upcoming projects!

Send ELECTRI your contracts for Document Crunch Research
ELECTRI is partnering with Document Crunch on upcoming research to determine what constitutes fair and unfair contract language for our contractors to use as a template in the future. They are in the initial phase of gathering contracts from sheet metal, mechanical, and electrical contractors. Please send any contracts you are willing to share to josh.bone@electri.org to be included in this research. Contracts will remain anonymous through this process.

"Share Your Experience" --
Survey on Preventing Struck-by Incidents in Construction
Struck-by incidents are a leading cause of injury and death in the construction industry. To add to our understanding of factors that contribute to these incidents and ways to prevent them, The Center for Construction Research and Training organization is conducting a brief online survey of industry stakeholders on behalf of the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health’s (NIOSH) National Occupational Research Agenda (NORA) Work Group on Preventing Struck-By Injuries. The results of this survey will be used to inform the development of new resources and strategies to reduce struck-by hazards and protect workers.

This brief survey should take no more than 15 minutes to complete and your participation is completely voluntary and all responses will be anonymous. No names or personal identifiers will be collected as part of this survey, and results will only be used as group data.
The survey is collecting responses through Friday, Feb. 18. At the completion of the survey, those interested in helping with the development, review, or testing of resources or strategies will have the option of voluntarily providing their contact information in a form completely separate from the survey. NECA asks you participate in this survey to help carry out this important initiative to protect construction workers and prevent struck-by injuries and fatalities. Please note: if you receive a request to take this survey from more than one organization, you only need to complete it once. If you have any questions about the survey, please contact Jessica Bunting at jbunting@cpwr.com

Legislative Update - 2/17/22
HB 5412 (Leader Marcus Evans, Jr.) -
Status Update: As a reminder, this legislation amends the Wage Payment & Collection Act and seeks to hold general contractors and subcontractors liable for wage claims at any tier on a private construction project. IMSCA opposes this legislation.

Amendment 1 emerged last week and as expected, HB 5412 as amended was approved by the House Labor & Commerce Committee yesterday. It is important to note, the sponsor of the legislation, Leader Marcus Evans, Jr. made a commitment to continue working on the bill with stakeholders and to return the bill to committee with an additional amendment.

Leader Evans’ commitment to return to committee provides IMSCA with an opportunity to continue working on this bill. IMSCA is currently working on developing language that more clearly provides an exemption for signatories of collective bargaining agreements than what is included in HB 5412 as amended. From the proponents point of view, the amendment adopted yesterday was their effort to compromise with the opponents by creating an exemption for union contractors. Based on thorough review of the amendment, the adopted amendment doesn’t provide much protection for contractors and more work needs to be done.

IMSCA will continue to update as negotiations on this important issue continue to unfold. If any questions, please contact Jessica Newbold Hoselton, Executive Director, Illinois Mechanical & Specialty Contractors Association (IMSCA) at (217) 523-4361.
