INTECH -  Graduation Ceremony

(10/8/22)

The IBEW – NECA Technical Institute (INTECH) under the direction of the Electrical Joint Apprenticeship and Trainee Trust (EJATT), held its Graduation Ceremony on Saturday, October 8, 2022. The event was held at the Aon Grand Ballroom of Navy Pier in Chicago.  

Illinois Green Alliance - 20 Yrs.

The Illinois Green Alliance, formerly, the US Green Building Council Chicago (USGBC Chicago), celebrated its 20th Anniversary. The Illinois Green Alliance commemorated this milestone during its Annual Limelight Event – Emerald Awards Program on Thursday, October 6, 2022. The event highlighted the leadership of municipalities and non-profits in net-zero buildings. The Electrical Contractors’ Association of City of Chicago (ECA) has been a supporter of the Illinois Green Alliance since its start. Powering Chicago was a Diamond Level Sponsor for the event.


The Illinois Green Alliance is a membership directed nonprofit organization working to transform the region’s built environment to become ecologically sustainable, profitable, and healthy. To do so, the Illinois Green Alliance engages community leaders and utilizes their members expertise in education and community outreach through targeted programs and initiatives focused around green homes, communities, schools and existing buildings. Illinois Green provides nearly 75 educational programs, community engagement events, tours and advocacy initiatives each year.   


We wish Brian Imus, Executive Director (pictured on the left), Katie Kaluzny, Associate Director, as well as their staff many more years of success.

March of Dimes Construction & Transportation Awards (10/7/22)

The March of Dimes held its 28th Annual Construction & Transportation Awards Luncheon on Friday, October 7, 2022.  The annual Construction and Transportation Awards Luncheon is a unique event that honors industry companies, organizations and individuals. Honoree categories include: Construction, Transportation, Professional Services, Leadership in the Public Sector, Leadership in the Private Sector, Developer, Community Impact and the Rufus Taylor Award.


Electrical Contractors’ Association of City of Chicago (ECA) members Tara Szwabowski, John Burns Construction Company – Event Co-Chair (top photo on left) and Kendra Dinkins, Taylor Electric Company – Past Co-Chair were on hand to assist with the program (both in middle photo on left). Powering Chicago was a Gold Sponsor of the program. The ECA congratulates the many awardees. The 2022 Construction Award went to Turner-Clayco JV Willis Tower Redevelopment and the Rufus Taylor Award went to Ernest Brown, Brown & Momen, Inc. (Brown & Dinkins photo below).

City Council Adopts Mayor Lightfoot's

2022 Energy Transformation Code


CHICAGO — on September 21st, City Council passed Mayor Lightfoot's 2022 Chicago Energy Transformation Code, making Chicago one of the first major U.S. cities and the first city in Illinois to adopt and exceed the 2021 edition of the International Energy Conservation Code (IECC), a widely used model code.


Most requirements will apply to building permits applied for on or after November 1, 2022, with additional requirements taking effect on January 1, 2023.

Earlier this year, Oracle opened the doors to its new 30,000-square-foot Oracle Industry Lab just outside of Chicago, in Deerfield Illinois. The working lab provides customers a hands-on environment to develop new ideas and create solutions leveraging technology from Oracle and more than 30 industry partners. Supported by Verizon 5G Ultra Wideband, the lab will first focus on the energy and water, construction and engineering, communications, and manufacturing industries.
