Mayor Lightfoot announces Department of Buildings Commissioner and First Deputy Commissioner appointments
Mr. Matthew Beaudet becomes Chicago’s first-ever Native American to serve as a City Commissioner; Ms. Marlene Hopkins named Buildings’ First Deputy Commissioner. Mr. Beaudet will need to be formally confirmed by the City Council. Please review the City' s recent press release for more information.

NECA Government Affairs Update Webinar - 8/12/2020 2 PM (EST)
NECA’s government affairs team will provide an update on the latest happenings on Capitol Hill, including progress on Phase IV coronavirus relief legislation and its impact on our contractors. City of Chicago Disparity Study

The City of Chicago is conducting a Disparity Study of its construction program for Minority-and Women-­owned Business Enterprises ("M/WBEs"). The City is conducting this research to ensure that M/WBEs have equal access to construction contracting opportunities and that the City's current construction program remains legally defensible and administratively successful. 

Chicago’s Procurement Services Department to host online Workshop about Construction Contracting on August 27th
This is a Construction-focused workshop that provides an overview of the bidding process and highlights programs related to construction opportunities. This includes the Small Business Initiative (SBI), Mid-size Business Initiative (MBI), Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), Apprentice Utilization Bid Preference, and many more.

Virtual workshop will be from 2 to 3 p.m.

OSHA Access to Employee Medical Records Revision
The U.S. Department of Labor and OSHA revised the Rules of Agency Practice and Procedure Concerning Occupational Safety and Health Administration Access to Employee Medical Records. The Illinois IBEW Renewable Energy Fund (IBEW REF), which has received funding for renewable energy training throughout Illinois, is pleased to present a complimentary two-day training program regarding work in the solar industry in Illinois. The coursework has been developed to inform the union electrical contractor to become an effective union solar contractor.   
Stand-Down to Save Lives -
2020 National Safety Stand-Down September 14-18, 2020  
Fatalities caused by falls from elevation continue to be a leading cause of death for construction employees, accounting for 320 of the 1,008 construction fatalities recorded in 2018 (BLS data). Those deaths were preventable. The National Safety Stand-Down raises fall hazard awareness across the country in an effort to stop fall fatalities and injuries..  
 
OSHA’s Stand-Down webpage offers information on conducting a successful event, and educational resources. Employers are encouraged to provide feedback after their events, and to obtain a personalized certificate of participation.

The Electrical Contractors’ Association of City of Chicago (ECA) / Chicago & Cook County Chapter, NECA and the Northeastern Illinois Chapter, NECA are proud to present the next Safety Forum featuring the seminar, "Excavation Hazards in Construction." This is a FREE 4-hour safety training program designed to educate workers about the risks and liabilities associated with trench-related work.

The ECA will cover the cost of convention registration for NECA 2020 Live ($200 per individual) for up to ten individuals per ECA member firm.
