This season brings new opportunities, big transitions, and many unknowns. No matter where your journey begins this year, ECAC is here to support you.

We understand that this time of year can feel both exciting and overwhelming. Whether you’re navigating the complexities of special education, accessing early intervention services, planning for adulthood, or supporting a child with special health care needs - you don’t have to do it alone.

At ECAC, we are committed to staying on top of the rapidly changing landscape at the state and federal levels that affects the systems our families rely on. Policies, programs, and resources are evolving quickly, and we are working diligently to stay informed so that we can better serve and support you.

Our services are always free and available statewide, and our team is only a call or click away.

Let’s work together to make this school year one of growth, connection, and meaningful progress.

Wishing you a fantastic start to the year,

The ECAC Team

A new school year means a new grade, new teachers, new goals, and maybe even a new school! Having a good relationship with your child’s teacher will make it easier for you to share concerns and work together. These tips from Understood can help you build a strong partnership.

Back-to-School Mental Health Checklist

School supplies, clothes, bus routes – it feels like a lot. It’s also a good time to check in with kids on their mental health. The Kids Mental Health Foundation's Back-to-School Mental Health Checklist has what you need to help get your family mentally ready to start the school year!

Back to School: Big Transitions - Resources from Child Mind Institute to help Our Kids Thrive

As kids head back to school, the ones facing the biggest changes are those starting kindergarten, middle school, and high school. These transitions involve new schools, new routines, and lots of unfamiliar faces. It’s understandable for kids (and parents) to be a bit anxious, but these new beginnings are opportunities for them to develop important academic and social skills and a stronger sense of self. Child Mind Institute's resources outline the specific challenges of each transition and offer tips for parenting kids through them

Tell Us Something Good Award

Be on the lookout for this annual opportunity to highlight the important role families and educators play in the education and well-being of children throughout the school year. Families are invited to nominate their child’s school/teacher for the, “Tell Us Something Good" award. Share an experience that you’ve had with your child’s teacher/ school that shows their welcoming attitude and enthusiasm in working with families to create a positive experience for students with disabilities and their families. You can submit a video clip that is no more than two minutes or a written submission of 260 words or less. It could be an experience from this past school year through October 2025.

The winner will be determined by the number of “likes” each video clip or written submission receives on ECAC’s Facebook page. The school with the most votes will receive a $1000.00 award to go towards a family engagement activity for families at their school. The parent/ caregiver who submitted the winning entry will receive a $200.00 gift card. The winning school will be announced live during ECAC’s Tool Time Tuesday Broadcast on Tuesday, February 3, 2025.

Start early as the transition back to school begins. Be on the lookout for that winning submission. More details will be made available in September. For more information contact Beverly Roberts, Broberts@ecacmail.org. Have a great start to the school year! More details to come!

Family engagement is about families, schools and community partners working together to support and boost children's learning, development, and health. It happens in many places, including at home, in school, and during other community activities. Research shows that meaningful family engagement results in better outcomes for students, for families, for schools, and for their communities.
