HELPFUL TIPS!

Here are some helpful tips for enjoying

your high altitude visit to Estes Park, Colorado!

Estes Park is located on the eastern entrance of the

Rocky Mountain National Park.

The elevation is 7,500+ ft. above sea level.

HYDRATE!

Drinking plenty of water is the best way for your body to easily adjust to our higher altitude.

Hydrate with plenty of water a couple of days prior to arrival.

When here, you should drink about twice as much water as you would drink at home closer to sea level.

The Rocky Mountain water is pure and refreshing, so drink it up!

Like the desert, the lack of humidity means it’s easier to become dehydrated.

If the water isn’t replaced, your heart will work harder causing you to fatigue more quickly.

Dehydration is a contributor to altitude sickness and may also lead to lower blood oxygen levels.

At altitude, even if you don’t feel thirsty, sipping on water all day is important.

Be aware alcohol & coffee can contribute to dehydration, as well as smoking.

Match every alcoholic drink and cup of coffee with a glass of water.

Protect yourself!

High altitude sun rays are 36% stronger than at sea level,

so apply sunscreen liberally and frequently.

Good sunglasses are essential for protecting your eyes

from UV rays.

Brimmed hats will protect your face, scalp and ears.

Don’t forget the lip balm.

Wear layers of clothing!

October weather in Colorado can be very unpredictable!

Hats, gloves & a warm jacket are essential.

Wear sturdy shoes with warm socks.

Be realistic about your physical abilities,

know your limits and use common sense.

Slow down!

Retreat together!
