This Week's Message from the ECCT Reparations Task Force

Did you know? Connecticut is one of the most segregated places in the country. The politics and socio-economic practices of the liberal North through legalized (de jure) policies of redlining and predatory lending are hallmarks of the North's segregation. Read about the history of legal segregation in CT and the political action to change these policies of segregation.

How does redlining in CT affect us all? Answer here
Celebrating the gift of life and water on the Connecticut River
Cherish and Celebrate on the Connecticut River

In partnership with the Connecticut River Conservancy, a group gathered at Riverside Park in Hartford on Saturday, June 26, to rest, replenish, and be renewed by the waters of the river. Some kayaked and hiked, others planted trees and learned about the river on guided walks. The gathering concluded with worship on the banks of the great river, led by the Rev. Canon Jorge Pallares and musicians from our Cathedral in Hartford along with music and stories of the River Tribes in Connecticut by Mixashawn Rozie.

Keep the celebration going by planting and caring for a tree this summer. Learn more about selecting, planting, and caring for trees in the Connecticut Tree Owner's Manual.

The UTO applications for the 2022 Granting are now available on the UTO website The focus of this year’s grants is "Care of Creation: Turning love into action by caring for God’s creation to protect the most vulnerable—who will bear the largest burden of pollution and climate change—through justice, advocacy, environmental reparations, or the development of formation materials."

The UTO is a ministry of The Episcopal Church for the mission of the whole church. Through UTO, individuals are invited to embrace and deepen a personal daily spiritual discipline of gratitude. UTO encourages people to notice the good things that happen each day, give thanks to God for those blessings, and make an offering for each blessing. Exploring the archives - Resolution 7

At ECCT's 2020 Annual Convention, resolution 7 resolved that parishes, worshiping communities, and Intentional Episcopal Communities take steps to discover and document historic complicity in racism in their parish and communities. In order to best support this work we have begun to curate a list of parishes and communities that have already explored their histories and can assist others. If you and your community have already begun this work, please email and notify ECCT Archivist Greg Farr.
