From our Secretary of Convention, the Rev. Stacey Kohl
Hopefully, by now, you are well-aware that our 242nd Annual Convention is coming up the weekend of Oct. 23–24 at the Bristol Event Center. And for those of you who have been elected as delegates from your parish, IEC, or worshipping community, or who are clergy in ECCT, you also probably knew we are a democracy. But what if you don't fit into one of those categories? Did you know you still have a voice at Convention?
As a representative democracy, parish, IEC, and worshipping comunity elected delegates represent you and your parish at our Convention. The lay delegates elected from each community carry a great responsibility, as it is their job to act as the voice of the full parish at our Convention.
This year we have a variety of resolutions coming before our Convention including: 2027 Budget of Convention, 2027 Minimum Clergy Compensation, Revisions to Diocesan Equal Employment Opportunity Policy, Consideration Of Amendments to ECCT Canon VIII, Confirming a trustworthy source for social justice work, Establishment of a Diocesan Clean Energy Task Force, Standing in Solidarity with Palestine, Designation of Reparations Sunday, and Investing in and Empowering Young Adults for the Mission of God.
Perhaps you have found yourself wondering how you can speak to one of these resolutions? Or have questions about how they might be implemented?
Now is the time to engage prayerfully and honestly with your parish delegates about this year's resolutions. Just as we are called "to stay informed; critically evaluate information before we share or act on it; and engage in respectful political dialogue even when we disagree"* in our local, state, and national governance—so too are we called to "Engage Faithfully" in our diocesan governance.
