First Sunday after the Epiphany: The Baptism of Our Lord

Opening Prayer: The Epiphany

O God, by the leading of a star you manifested your only Son to the peoples of the earth: Lead us, who know you now by faith, to your presence, where we may see your glory face to face; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.

Amen.

-Bishop Laura

Ordinations to the Priesthood

Ordinations to the Priesthood at Christ Church Cathedral, Hartford

"Church, greet your new priests! Congratulations to the Reverends Cecil Tengatenga, Christopher Gregorio, Dylan Mello, Michael Southwick, Timothy Hamlin and Roxana Videla!

My Companions in Christ, the Church is the family of God, the body of Christ, and the temple of the Holy Spirit. All baptized people are called to make Christ known as Savior and Lord, and to share in the renewing of his world. Now you are called to work as pastor, priest, and teacher, together with your bishop and fellow presbyters, and to take your share in the councils of the Church.

As a priest, it will be your task to proclaim by word and deed the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and to fashion your life in accordance with its precepts. You are to love and serve the people among whom you work, caring alike for young and old, strong and weak, rich and poor. You are to preach, to declare God's forgiveness to penitent sinners, to pronounce God's blessing, to share in the administration of Holy Baptism and in the celebration of the mysteries of Christ's Body and Blood, and to perform the other ministrations entrusted to you.

In all that you do, you are to nourish Christ's people from the riches of his grace, and strengthen them to glorify God in this life and in the life to come."

-Bishop Jeff

Observance of the 175th Anniversary of the Abolition of Slavery in Connecticut, January 14

On Sunday, January 14 from 3PM - 5PM A liturgical observation at Christ Church Cathedral, Hartford will take place, creating a sacred space that will allow us to reflect on the sins of our past and the ways in which our faith calls us to seek justice, reconciliation, and repair.

As we commemorate the abolition of slavery in our state, we cannot ignore the fact that our forebears were complicit in a system that perpetuated grave injustice and suffering. It is a moment for us to repent and to recommit ourselves to the Gospel call of love, justice, and equality.
