Ordination of the Sacred Order of the Diaconate

By the divine permission Bishop Diocesan of the Episcopal Church in Connecticut, Holy Orders under the protection of Almighty God were administered to 6 ordinands, Cecil Tengatenga, Christopher Gregorio, Emily Carter, Dylan Mello, Micheal Southwick, and Roxana Videla on June 17, 2023 at Christ Church Cathedral, Hartford for ordination to the sacred order of deacons.

It's Time to Branch Out!

June is the month of magic, not the kind of magic that hides in the depths of a Marry Poppins carry-on or the depths of a black top hat. It’s also not the kind of magic that’s tucked underneath the cool side of a pillow, appreciating in value as the clock strikes midnight.

June represents the kind of magic that can’t be contained, the kind of mysterious wonder and awe that only God can comprehend fully. God speaks to everyone in their own unique way whether it be dance, or nature, or liturgy. However, one profound way God’s magic emanates isn’t that of songbird nannies, rabbits, or tooth fairy’s, its in the stillness and silence of universal reminders to abundantly & unapologetically love our earthly siblings.

DID YOU KNOW that during the Civil War there were three regiments of Black volunteers from Connecticut?

On May 22, 1863, the US Department of War issued General Order No. 143 establishing the Bureau of Colored Troops. Despite strong opposition from some members of the General Assembly, on November 23 Gov. Buckingham authorized the establishment of the Twenty-ninth Regiment Colored Volunteers. By January 1864, more than 1,200 men flocked to the Twenty-ninth (and eventually, the Thirtieth and Thirty-first) Regiment United States Colored Infantry, despite the fact that many Black laborers earned wages that were higher than army pay and enlistment bounties. In total, 1,764 men of color served Connecticut during the Civil War between 1863 and 1867. That was an astounding number, given that the 1860 census revealed only 2,206 men of color between the ages of 18-50 were living in the state at the time.

Pizza Church, July 1

Starting July 1st Christ Church, Bethlehem is hosting Pizza Church form 5:30PM-6:30PM every 1st and 3rd Saturday!

Pizza (from Oliva’s on Main) will be served after the service and there is no charge. Come for one or both and see what it’s all about.
