Infrastructure Project Awards 2023

The ECCT Community Gardens Ministry Network works to facilitate, educate, and extend support to people interested in starting community gardens. Gardens play a role in addressing issues of food insecurity within their communities.

This year the Community Gardens Ministry Network decided to utilize the ECCT Ministry Network Grant by aiding parish gardens with a focus on garden infrastructure. This includes things such as repairing fencing, making additions to a garden's landscape, or restoring plant beds, etc.

Eight church gardens were selected as recipients of the 2023 Infrastructure Project Awards

Parish Revenue Opportunities via AON 5G

The Episcopal Church of Connecticut is collaborating with AON 5G LLC. We are inviting interested parishes to opt-in to see if they meet the 5G requirements.

This is a great revenue-generating opportunity. ECCT has entered into a marketing agreement with AON 5G, which would allow for them to market your rooftop to major telecommunication providers, if eligible and you choose to proceed with the partnership.

For more information, please review and fill out the AON 5G form below:

Reminder: ECCT 2023 Parish Stewardship Resources!

1) Project Resource is a resource from the College of Bishops which equips parish stewardship teams with flexible resources to design and execute annual stewardship campaigns, which may be replicated and adapted for future years. This year, Project Resource is offering a five-week online training, Sunday afternoons from 5:00-7:00 PM ET, via ZOOM. The cost for a team of three is $450. ECCT will match a parish at half the total cost ($225), up to 20 parishes total in our diocese. All applications are due August 14!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2) The Episcopal Network for Stewardship (TENS): “Rooted in Abundance 2023” is this year’s TENS campaign. ECCT's membership enables your parish to have access to the myriad assets that TENS provides, from the annual theme’s theological statement, timelines, and sample rector/warden letters to Prayers of the People, marketing logos, and sample pledge cards/bulletin inserts. Please contact Canon Tim Hodapp for this year’s password!

DID YOU KNOW that as early as 1749, throughout Connecticut and other New England colonies, the African and African-American community -- including enslaved and free people alike -- maintained a custom of electing its own leadership through an institution they established and called the "Black Governors." The terms "Black Governor" and "Black King" were both used, though the latter was more common in areas with stronger ties to the British Crown. The first Black Governor in Connecticut, Hercules, was elected in approximately 1749 to represent New London. The date is imprecise because the single reference located to date is the inscription on the 1749 headstone of Floria, "wife of Hercules, Governor of the Negroes," in the Antientest Burial Ground in New London, Connecticut located on Hempstead Street. The tradition of electing Black Governors continued until approximately 1856?

From Amber Page Gehr, Diocesan Transition Minister:

The Transition Ministries Conference is a regional meeting of diocesan transition ministers from about 40 dioceses, mostly in the northeastern quadrant of the US (from Missouri east and North Carolina north), specifically to share information about congregations that are searching for clergy and clergy who are looking for new congregations. Diocesan transition ministers present summaries of congregational profiles and pertinent information about potential clergy candidates in search of the best match between talent and need.

The conference occurs twice a year, and the next in person meeting is September 11-14. If you are exploring another call or are in the early stages of the discernment process, this is a chance for you to test that out.

The first step is to fill out the TMC Confidential Information form at transitionministryconference.org. Please also take the time to update your OTM Portfolio, which can be completed online. The deadline for submitting your material for the in-person conference is Friday, September 8.

Knowing that the decision to explore new ministry possibilities is a sensitive one, please rest assured that the names shared at the TMC are kept in strictest confidence; only I will know who has asked to be presented. There is a high trust level between TMC transitions ministers, and we honor the delicate nature of this sort of discernment. Please also know that before applying to any parish it is highly recommended that you reach out to me and let me know. TMC transition ministers call each other often and I can’t represent you or advocate for you if I am caught off guard by a phone call. One of the first questions we usually ask is if we know that you are looking and why? It is unfortunate when I can’t represent one of our priests in the best possible light because I wasn’t aware.

Please contact me (apagegehr@episcopalct.org) with any questions about the TMC or the process.
