Dear ECEDHA family and friends,
Please join myself and the ECEDHA Staff in welcoming my great friend and colleague Michael Devetsikiotis, Chair of the ECE Department at the University of New Mexico, as the new Editor for ECEDHA’s newsletter.
ECEDHA is going through a historic period of renewal and growth driven by the best minds in our collective midst. Appropriately, this newsletter is also set to implement changes and new initiatives that will further serve to bring the ECE Department Heads community in new ways. With his uncommon energy, brilliance, engagement, collegiality, and a laser-like focus, Michael is inarguably the best colleague to take this newsletter to the next level.
With the continued adverse impacts of COVID-19, and the continuing uncertainties about the Fall semester and beyond, the importance of sharing our best ideas in order to advance our field as a whole has never been higher. In this issue of

, we are proud to feature the efforts of our corporate friends at Texas Instruments aimed at addressing the needs of our students.

Rethinking Electronics Education
|
With the demand for students that are design oriented and thrive in team settings growing from industry, OSU needed to create an environment where project based learning was central. They designed an entire lab dedicated to undergraduate labs and took on the challenge of redefining what their student’s engineering curriculum could be.

Accelerate, expand and sustain your self-driving vehicles research
|
Building a robust and maintainable research lab for modern engineering applications can be challenging. Researchers often procure components from different sources – consumer stores, industry suppliers, open-source communities, or build them by themselves. Trying to make such a collection of tools work within a sophisticated application framework can get messy pretty quickly. So what if there was a better solution?
Quanser’s Self-Driving Car Research Studio, released earlier this year, brings you the tools you need to implement and validate your ideas and publish the results faster, doing the research your way. See the Self-Driving Car Research Studio in action and learn more about its features on our

We’ve seen many interesting and inspiring 3D printed rover robot projects over the years and are grateful for how 3D printing technology has helped the robotic community to grow more diverse in design and material choices. Khang Nguyen, on behalf of Circuit Specialists would like to make a small contribution to the robotic community by publishing this MrK_Blockvader on Instructables for the Maker Community.
MrK_Blockvader is a fun and interactive project where looks can be deceiving. This robot utilizes a tiny buzzer and could be equipped with a color sensor, distance sensor, a radio module to communicate with other Blocky with alike capability, with a base or with a controller.
MrK_Blockvader will be part of a robot network where one can be assigned as the commander to a group of robots to achieve the same objective.

Back to Work Won't Be Business as Usual. Get Ready.
|
We’re beginning to see signs of a societal return to normalcy. While many businesses (fortunately) have continued to operate during the Covid-19 pandemic—with many people across industries embracing work from home for the first time—operations at many manufacturing and production environments have been minimized or suspended completely. As companies prepare for a full-scale return, science tells us the threat will be with us for some time. The post-Covid workplace may be the “new normal” – at least for the foreseeable future. Here are the top five steps you should take to ensure the safety of your employees while still optimizing your operations.
