April Update

Please read carefully as we have a lot of upcoming events to share! We are excited to be in new units of study right now--including Pets, Roads, and Insects! We look forward to spending more time outside as the weather, hopefully, continues to get warmer.

Some big news speaking of outside--we have a NEW playground renovation project starting in April! This has been a long time conversation with collaboration between the church and ECEC as the playground needed updates in order to continue passing inspections. The church partnered with ECEC to support the funding of this great project! ECEC had funds saved that were ear marked for this, but as you can imagine it's even more important that we ensure our budget remains in positive standing each year.

The project is projected to begin April 8th and estimated to be completed in two weeks. During this time, we will play upstairs or in other outside areas. Also on April 8th, we will not go outside due to the Solar Eclipse.

I worked with the playground company on designs and structures that met the needs of early childhood development and offered many different avenues for play--not just gross motor play. There are areas for dramatic play, music, balance, climbing, and sliding. A really important area needed for kids is play that fosters their proprioceptive and vestibular development! More on that below :) The playground has areas that will foster these. Check out the rendering below!

ECEC Happenings

The students really LOVED the music unit!! Mr. David was so much fun and we hope to have music again with him soon. Also a special thanks to Josiah's mom for sharing her musical talent with us!

This Month in Chapel

Our classes are doing great during chapel lessons! I'm including the month at a glance for our upcoming Chapel Lessons.

4/3: Jesus Appears to Two Disciples

This week in Chapel, the children learned of how the disciples recognize the resurrected Jesus through the Scriptures and the breaking of bread when “Jesus Appears on the Emmaus Road” (Luke 24:13–35). Talk with your children: “How does Christ comes to and abide with us?”

4/10: Sing Along!

4/17: Thomas Sees the Risen Savior

This week in Chapel, the children studied “Jesus Appears to Thomas” (John 20:19–31). We, like Thomas, doubt what we cannot see. Through His Spirit, God gives us eyes of faith that we might see Jesus in Word and Sacrament and believe in Him. Discuss with your family: “When is it hard to trust and believe in the promises of God? Who is the source of our faith?”

4/24: Jesus Goes Back to Heaven

This week’s Chapel lesson taught the children “Jesus Ascends into Heaven” to prepare a place for us there with Him (Acts 1:1–11; Luke 24:44–53). Ask the children to tell you about Jesus’ ascension and what it means for them.

Summer Camps- Please Share!

ECEC Preschool Summer Session

We have 5 current openings for our summer session only. The openings are in the 4-5 year old rooms. If you know of anyone looking, please share our info!

Themes for this summer include: Party in the USA, Disney, ECEC Olympics, VBS, and more!

We will also have our brand new amazing playground to use in the summer.

We are trying to schedule summer "in house" performances, but they are proving to be very expensive. We are using some of our upcoming events as fundraisers. If you would like to make a donation to our summer experience fund, we will book as many as we can!

SCHOOL AGE summer camps hosted by St. John's upstairs. Each week is taught by different elementary school teachers. They are fabulous! Students will play games, complete STEAM activities, spend time outdoors, and have fun! They will also get to use our brand new playground. Check out the bundle deals being offered. Register all 5 weeks and get a week for FREE. Register for any 4 weeks and save $300!

Focus on Sensory Integration

Sensory integration is so important for young children. Think about all the messy things that you don't like...those are all the things important for children's growth :) Sand, paint, mud, slime, etc. all support their senses. Many movements like spinning around until dizzy, swinging upside down, jumping and crashing on cushions are all ways to receive sensory input and teach your brain many different responses. Why it may seem silly, there's so much good in children spinning until they're dizzy and practicing how to find balance again!

I'm attaching a few links with great information.
