ECESF Summer Newsletter

August 12, 2024

Hello Sara,

Summer can bring a lot of change, adventure, heat, or for San Francisco — and I continue to be thankful — still cool air. For educators, teachers & administrators, summer means special programs, closing down a year while prepping for the next, and welcoming new families and children. Wherever you are in your summer happenings, I hope you’ve found some time for rest, reflection, and renewal.

ECESF had the opportunity to hold a summer ECESF Community Gathering to deepen our ties with each other as center teachers and administrators, celebrate and reflect on our work, and plan our year ahead. We will bring our summer planning to our September 28 ECESF Community Gathering and program year kick-off. ECESF's year ahead will focus on bringing center educators into dialogue with each other and then with the Department of Early Childhood (DEC) and other policy makers to identify and shape what is most needed to support quality and work conditions at each of San Francisco's sites.

If you haven’t yet, fill out an ECESF interest form. (The interest form only needs to be filled out one time unless you have a change of sites, job roles, or contact information.) We’ll be reaching out to all interested for our next event and ways to engage throughout the year.

ECSEF continues our work as leaders of the SF ECE Advocacy Coalition along with FCCA SF, Parent Voices, and Children's Council, building a strong community of center and FCC educators, families, and community allies dedicated to ensuring that Early Care & Education (ECE) has needed resources, and that those who provide and receive San Francisco's diverse ECE services are at the forefront of shaping the programs and policies that support them. Register for the SF ECE Advocacy Coalition's September 19 D9 & D11 Supervisor Forum below, as well as CPAC's Mayoral forum to get ready for fall elections.

We're also pleased to announce the Asian Early Childhood Education Alliance's soft launch, as well as the Department of Early Childhood's job posting, and other opportunities. See details below.

Collaboratively,

Sara Hicks-Kilday
