Voting for Persons with Disabilities Just Got Safer and Easier
In a year when covid19 has posed great concerns about voter safety, and in an era when the candidate choices are so starkly different, our vote is critical in the final tally. The landmark Rutgers 2018 study* indicates that if people with disabilities voted at the same rate as people without disabilities, there would be 2.35 million more voters. We are a powerful voting block indeed!
Here’s the fix: request your mail-in ballot at
eabsentee.org/form/easyvote2020
Eabsentee
is quick to complete
(it just takes less than a minute), only asks a few questions, and offers a receipt for your application! Also, unlike the state website,
y
ou don’t need a DMV electronic signature, or your driver’s license number. You don’t even need to supply your full social security number, just the last four digits.
Without exception, voters applaud its simplicity, and find it m
uch less cumbersome than the state website.
And best of all,
eabsentee
is approved by the Virginia State Board of Elections, so you can have full confidence in using it to apply for your mail-in ballot.
You can even track your ballot at
vote.virginia.gov
,
so you can be assured of its timely processing: you can learn the date your application is received by the registrar, the date your ballot is mailed to you (as early as Sept 19), and the date your completed ballot is received by the registrar!
Remember when it used to be complicated? It’s not anymore.
Here's what Janice Y., a voting advocate who has a disability, reported recently:
I applied on Wed., May 20 at 11 a.m. and received an email confirmation and copy of my application one minute later. Proof! I was able to track my application the next day on vote.virginia.gov and received my ballot
Tues., May 26 – after the Memorial Day weekend – less than a week later. I completed my ballot immediately and mailed it back to the registrar. My ballot for the June primary was received by June 2. All done. One less thing to think about or remember! So fast, so easy. I told all my friends!
Janice said she’s also requested her ballot for the November presidential election, allowing plenty of time to receive her ballot and mail it back. She doesn’t want her vote to be at risk by getting lost among the 10x-the-normal-volume of mail-in ballots expected this election.
If you request your ballot now, you’ll be sent your mail-in ballot as early as Sept 19. The post office and the registrar will have plenty of time to process your ballot so it counts.
As Janice advises us all, “
Don’t wait. Request your mail-in ballot today while you are thinking about it. Our vote is too important to put at risk.”
Not registered yet? Or need to update your registration since the last time you voted with a new name or address? No problem. Go to
eabsentee.org/form/easyvote2020
and get everything updated so you can successfully vote in 2020! Apply today.
