UPCOMING DATES:

The ECOEA Spring Representative Assembly was held Saturday, April 5, at Stark County Educational Service Center. This is the annual meeting of the district association where the annual budget is approved, elections are held for ECOEA positions, reports from committees, caucuses and representatives for OEA Committees are given. We also heard from OEA President Scott DiMauro. The NEA Director's Report was given by Amy Butcher, Sharron Callahan, and Linna Jordan. President Juliann Doerschuk presided over the Representative Assembly. The Invocation was given by Jen McKelley, North Canton EA.


Congratulations to the following members who were elected to two-year terms:

  • ECOEA Vice President: Heather Zuniga, Malvern Education Association
  • ECOEA Recording Secretary: Kelli Mohn, Plain Local Teachers' Association


Congratulations to the following members who were elected to three-year terms:

  • Stark County Rep #1:Kristine Twigg, Fairless Education Association
  • Stark County Rep #2:Yvonne Parks, Canton Professional Educators' Association
  • Stark County Rep #4:Tracy Bowser, Alliance Education Association
  • Tuscarawas County Rep:Holly Lloyd, Claymont Education Association


Elected to serve three-year terms as OEA Board of Directors are:

  • Unit 1: Barb Newton, Northwest Teachers' Association (filling a vacancy until 2026)
  • Unit 3: Michelle Martin Jones, Canton Professional Educators' Association


Elected to serve a three-year term as the ECOEA Rep to OEA Standing Committees is:

  • Professional Efficacy: Kristine Twigg, Fairless Education Association


A vacancy remains in the position of Carroll County Rep to the ECOEA Executive Committee. Please contact the ECOEA office if interested in an appointment to this position. You must be a member of a local in Carroll County.


The Quinn Scholarships were awarded, Internal Organizing Grants and Public Relations Grants were announced. The assembly endorsed several candidates in OEA statewide races that will be voted on at the OEA Rep Assembly in May.


Delegates will now go on to represent the district at the OEA Spring Representative Assembly in Columbus on May 9 and 10. Thanks for representing ECOEA!

ECOEA Summer Leadship Scholarship 

Summer Leadership Academy is a great opportunity to grow your leadership skills. ECOEA is offering 10 scholarships. The scholarship covers the $100 registration fee, double occupancy hotel room, and all conference materials. Dinner is included on Monday and breakfast and lunch is included on Tuesday and Wednesday. OEA will match up to 10 scholarships. Preference will be given to first time attendees up until April 23. You must apply for the scholarship by April 30. Don't wait!
