OEA MINORITY LEADERSHIP TRAINING PROGRAM JUNE 13, 2020

Due to the pandemic, the OEA MLTP has been modified for this year to a one-morning virtual meeting scheduled for Saturday, June 13, 2020.
There is no charge to attend and participate in this workshop which but you must register in advance. Use this link for more details about the workshop and to reach the registration page.
JUNE 22-24, 2020

OEA has announced that the 2020 Summer Leadership Academy June 22-24 will be held virtually. There is no registration fee and registration remains open. The focus of the training remains the same--to help OEA members to realize and develop skills to be a leader in your profession and association. Here is a wonderful opportunity to attend from home! The NEA Annual Representative Assembly scheduled to held in Atlanta this summer will now be held virtually on July 2 & 3. The RA is the largest deliberative assembly in the world where over 8,000 delegates attend to the business of the national association.

ECOEA SUMMER LEADERSHIP WORKSHOP -Virtual Sessions throughout the month of July! Get your virtual learning going! Pick and choose the sessions that are right for you! Professional Development certificate for your learning hours awarded at the end of July at the conclusion of our sessions. No charge to participate and open to all ECOEA members.
OEA Treasurers' Training led by OEA Secretary-Treasurer Mark Hill will be offered on Wednesday, July 15, at two levels-
  • 9:00 AM-10:30 AM Novice for treasurers with 1-5 years experience
  • 11:00 AM-12:00 PM Experienced for treasurers with 6+ years
Treasurers are welcome to attend one or both of the sessions. Deadline to register is July 10.
OEA Local Presidents are invited to participate in this virtual session that will cover the Presidents' Handbook. This session will be held on Wednesday, July 22, 2020 from 9:00 AM-11:00 AM. Deadline to register is Friday, July 17.
The Building Rep Training , Thursday, July 23 from 9:30 AM-12:00 PM, is appropriate for those members taking on the association role of Building Rep or any member who is interested in learning more about member rights or leadership roles in the association.This virtual session will be led by OEA Labor Relations Consultants Sarah Drinkard and Alison Hoffa. Deadline to register is July 17.
SUMMER TECH TRAININGS

ECOEA is excited to bring Jake MIller to our Summer Leadership Workshop with a series of tech trainings sessions using tools to enhance blended learning. Jake Miller is an edtech and learning enthusiast who hosts the Educational Duct Tape podcast and shares #EduGIFs at @JakeMillerTech and on JakeMiller.net . He works as a Technology Integration Coach for the Orange City School District in Ohio. Before shifting his focus to supporting teachers in the integration of technology, he spent 12 years in the classroom teaching math, science & STEM at various grade levels. Jake’s favorite job, however, is his full-time position as a husband and father.

The ECOEA Special Meeting of the Representative Assembly was held virtually on Saturday, April 25 for the ECOEA delegates to attend to three important items of business. Because the ECOEA Spring Representative Assembly was postponed, the ECOEA Executive Committee authorized a Special Meeting to take care of three timely business items.

Nominations for the expiring terms for ECOEA County Representatives and ECOEA Representatives to several OEA Committees were held. As there were no contested races, the candidates who had filed Letters of Intent or were nominated from the floor were elected by acclamation. Congratulations to the following members elected to the ECOEA Executive Committee 2020-2023 :
  • Carroll County Rep-Heather Zuniga, Malvern EA
  • Holmes County Rep-Leora Troyer, East Holmes TA
  • Wayne County Rep #2-Ed Sims, Rittman EA
  • Stark County Rep #5-Juliann Doerschuk, Alliance EA

Elected as ECOEA Rep to OEA Committees 2020-2023 :
  • OEA Collective Bargaining Committee-Michelle Martin Jones, Canton Professional EA
  • OEA Organizing Strategy Committee-Cindy McKinstry, East Palestine EA
With no candidates, vacancies were declared for the following positions:
  • OEA Board of Directors, Unit #1
  • Columbiana County Rep #2
  • ECOEA Rep to OEA Convention Planning Committee

The ECOEA Executive Committee brought forward a motion to increase ECOEA annual dues by $2, making the dues for a full-time certified educator $13 per year. This is the first dues increase by ECOEA since 2009. The motion passed.

The ECOEA 2020-2021 budget was reviewed and approved.

Because the Spring Representative Assembly was postponed, other business items normally on the Spring agenda will be moved to the ECOEA Fall Representative Assembly on Saturday, November 7, 2020.
At the May ECOEA Executive Committee meeting, the following members were appointed to ECOEA vacancies:
  • Columbiana County Rep #2 (term 2020-2023)-Karen Marquis, Southern Local TA
  • Wayne County Rep #1 (term ending 2021)-Carolyn Garbinsky, Chippewa EA
  • ECOEA Rep to the OEA Convention Planning Committee (term 2020-2023)-Kristi Cropper, North Canton EA
  • ECOEA Rep to the OEA Professional Efficacy Committee (term ending 2022)-Dr. Paul Soska, Canton Professional EA
To the ECOEA Standing Committees , the following member volunteers were appointed to three-year terms (2020-2023):
  • ECOEA Scholarships, Awards, and Grants Committee-Andrea McSherry, Canton Professional EA
  • ECOEA Elections/RA Planning Committee-Dr. Paul Soska, Canton Professional EA
