As a member of a local association within the six counties served by ECOEA (Carroll, Columbiana, Holmes, Stark, Tuscarawas or Wayne), you are automatically a member of the East Central OEA District. We provide professional development, conferences, and scholarships that are open to all members. Each fall, ECOEA provides a scholarship of $500 to one member from each of the three voting units for continuing education. The scholarships are named in honor of David Augusta, long-time public education advocate, former ECOEA Executive Director, and teacher from Louisville EA.
The scholarships are by lottery drawing at the ECOEA November Executive Committee meeting and announced at the Fall Delegate Briefing on November 13. All active members are eligible to apply and payment is by reimbursement. You may not be receiving tuition reimbursement from your school district for the class you are submitting for the scholarship. Deadline to apply is November 1, 2021.
ECOEA provides funds for locals to use to show the support of their members and local association for their community. This opportunity to show local educators in a positive light helps provide great PR within the community. Grants of up to $500 are awarded in a competitive application process each fall for projects that can be completed by August 31, 2022.
For a local to be eligible, they need to elect and send delegates to the ECOEA Representative Assembly in the previous year. These locals show their involvement in the governance of our association on the district and state level and are then eligible for ECOEA grants. Deadline to apply is November 1, 2021.
This summer, the Minerva Local EA used their PR grant to buy car window clings for their members. The community notices the MLEA members supporting local businesses and attending school events. Great PR, MLEA!

ECOEA FALL DELEGATE ASSEMBLY UPDATE-
At the October ECOEA Executive Committee meeting last evening, it was voted to cancel the ECOEA Fall RA originally scheduled to be in-person at the Canton Professional Educators' Office on Saturday, November 13,. It has been replaced with a Delegate Briefing that will be presented by Senior OEA Board of Directors member Dr. Geneva Parker and will begin at 8:30 AM. The Delegate Briefing is expected to last about one-half hour and will be held on Zoom. The briefing will cover what to expect at the OEA Fall Representative Assembly and is especially useful to both novice and experienced delegates alike. A letter and email will be sent to all delegates from ECOEA inviting them to the Fall Briefing along with the Zoom link information to register.
Please call or email the ECOEA office if you have any questions regarding this change.
The next session in the OTES 2.0 virtual series is on October 21 with OEA Education Policy Consultant Ellen Adornetto. Be sure your LPDC members, negotiating team, or implementation team members attend for up-to-date information! All dates are listed for the final five sessions. Use this link: https://cvent.me/qMbBwM
