President's Message
Welcome Back! I hope you had a wonderful and recharging summer and that your year is off to a good start. Although I miss sleeping in and my feet are sore from standing and teaching all day, there is excitement in the air as the year begins. I love opening a new set of pens, writing in my new planner on a fresh page and wearing new clothes.
I would like to welcome new members to ECOEA. As you joined your local, you also became part of ECOEA (East Central Ohio Education Association), OEA (Ohio Education Association) and NEA (National Education Association). ECOEA is one of ten districts in the state and has almost 8,000 members from 63 locals.
Last week, I supported the Youngstown Education Association by visiting with members at one of their picket sites. Please follow their progress by visiting their social media page, Youngstown Teachers Solidarity, and consider wearing Red for Ed, donating to their cause or providing support at their picket sites. Also, please keep our Lake Local EA Family in your thoughts as they deal with the tragedy that struck their district last week. We stand with you, Youngstown and Lake.
Throughout this newsletter are many opportunities for you as a member of ECOEA that showcase where your dues dollars go. From our Legal Update in October at Hartville Kitchen, to a variety of scholarship and grant opportunities, to ONE's Trivia Night, there are opportunities for all to participate in and feel connected within our organization. Our website, ecoea.ohea.us, is always a great resource as well to find opportunities. We look forward to seeing you at ECOEA events throughout the year!
Happy Labor Day!
