Monday, June 16th, 2025

East Cleveland, OH – The East Cleveland Public Library proudly announces Green Piano Week, a heartfelt celebration of the life, legacy, and music of legendary artist Roberta Flack, while also raising awareness about amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.

The week of events began with The Green Piano Story Time on Monday, June 16, 2025, where families and children gathered to explore Roberta Flack’s journey through the beloved children’s book The Green Piano, a story that shares the power of perseverance, music, and dreams.

The celebration continues with a special documentary screening of Roberta on Saturday, June 21, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the East Cleveland Public Library. This powerful film offers an intimate look into the artist’s extraordinary life, career, and the challenges she faces following her ALS diagnosis.

The week concludes with a moving musical tribute to Roberta Flack on Sunday, June 22, 2025, featuring the acclaimed ensemble Hubbs Groove. Doors open at 3:00 PM, and the performance begins at 4:00 PM. This finale concert will honor Flack’s timeless music and enduring impact, while also supporting efforts to raise awareness about ALS.

“Roberta Flack’s story continues to inspire millions,” said Dr. Joy Jordan, Board Member of the East Cleveland Public Library. “Green Piano Week is a celebration of her artistic brilliance, a tribute to her courage, and a call to action in the fight against ALS.”
