Your garden may still be sleeping, but I hope things are blossoming in your quilting studio!
Whether you are working on your Quilt Show entry, Mystery Paint Chip Challenge quilt, items for Community Service, or just something for fun, I hope your sewing machine has been singing!
This month, we are excited to host Amanda Bauer at our day and evening meetings. She’ll be taking us down memory lane with an exciting history of English Paper Piecing. It’s a can’t miss month!

Thank you to everyone who brought a donation for the St. Ann Food Pantry in January! We’re going to do it again this month, so please consider bringing something with you to the February meeting – drop boxes will be near the Membership Table. Click here for the list of needed items.
Keep your machines humming,
Chris

Our Matriotism exhibit is being well received by staff and patrons at the Atlanta History Center (AHC). Thank you to all of our members who have served as ambassadors by welcoming patrons, answering their questions, and providing kids with our Matriotism scavenger hunt and quilt block coloring pages.
On February 2nd, our exhibit was the focus of the Museum’s monthly staff meeting. Thank you Linda Bailey and Steve Agnello for representing the Guild at this event. In the photo below, Linda is talking with Barbara Manwell, Director of Education at AHC. The Guild has been invited to participate in an upcoming homeschool program, one of the many activities that Barbara leads. In the other photo, Steve and Linda are pictured with Sheffield Hale, the President and CEO of the AHC. The 40 staff members attending the meeting asked lots of questions and were very welcoming.
| | |
The Matriotism exhibit will be displayed in the museum’s lobby through March 29. While admission tickets are $27 for the entire complex (Museum, Swan House, Tullie Smith House and gardens), you can access the lobby free of charge at any time to see our exhibit. Also, the AHC is hosting the touring US National Archives exhibit on March 27th–29th and admission is free on those days.
For more information on the exhibit, please go to Matriotism - East Cobb Quilters' Guild on our website. If you have any questions about the Matriotism exhibits, please send an email to matriotism@ecqg.com.
| | | | Hopefully everyone is excited about the 2026 Mystery Paint Chip Challenge. There's been some buzz from Guild members who have already started planning their quilt! If you have not gotten your paint chip, please see Alexa Morrison, Challenge Advisor, at the next guild meeting. | | EVENING GROUP - IMAGINATION STATION | | | | |
Starting in February, the Evening Group will begin a new mini-challenge called Imagination Station. We will be given a prompt that will fire our imaginations to create a small, quickly assembled project.
This month the prompt is the Morton Salt container. Yes, that’s right, that little cylindrical cardboard container that we have all grown up with. Will your project reflect the colors? The shape? The little girl or her umbrella? Whatever triggers your imagination, use that to make some postcards and bring them to next month’s meeting so we can all compare and contrast.
| | |
If you choose to, you can donate your postcards to the Guild for our Quilt Show fundraiser, but you do not have to. This is just a creativity exercise for fun and all skill levels are encouraged to participate.
Don’t usually attend the Evening Group meeting? Take the challenge and join us! Questions? Contact Rose Haisty.

Community Service had a spectacular 2025. Thank you to everyone who contributed their time, fabric, and sewn items. For the year, we made and donated about 8,200 items!
Three of us - Joanna Miller, Sue Schultz, and Glenda Jones - are taking over for the new year. We are hoping you can continue with your generosity to help us reach our 2026 goals. We will continue to supply kits from your donated fabrics.
| | | Volunteers are continuing in their roles with one exception: we need a volunteer to make flannel blanket kits. Please contact one of us to discuss the simple details. For all the information about our Community Service projects, click here. | | LIBRARY - POSTCARD INSPIRATION | | |
Do you want to make some postcards for the Quilt Show, but you aren’t sure where to start? The ECQG Library can help. We have several books on playful fusible applique that will get you going.
Fusing Fun! Fast Fearless Art Quilts and Fuse-and-Tell Journal Quilts, both by Laura Wasilowski, Fast Fun Fusies by Freida L. Anderson and Free Expression by Robbi Joy Eklow are all brimming with ideas that can be adapted to postcard making as well as providing clear instructions for using fusible web. If you want more ideas, try searching for books by Becky Goldsmith or browse the Applique, Pieced/Applique and Holiday/Children categories for a wealth of ideas.

Newly organized in 2025, the Sew What, Now What? Bee met for its first "sew-in" last month. In just a few hours, members created blocks for a quilt and even had a few left over. Stay tuned and see how this quilt develops!
Interested in joining a Bee? Would your Bee group welcome new members? Contact EJ Stapler, our Queen Bee.

Sunshine cards aren’t only for when things aren’t going great.
Sunshine cards are also for when something good is happening in someone’s life.
| | |
Perhaps a new grandchild, an anniversary, or a family member’s wedding. Do you know a member who has won an award? There are lots of reasons to celebrate, and we would love to send a card from ECQG to acknowledge this. It can be to a member, or to someone who works with ECQG as well.
We sometimes send regular physical cards, but we now also send e-cards, which we can customize to the occasion.
If you know someone who you’d like to send some sunshine to, please email sunshine@ecqg.com with their name and the occasion. These cards can really put a smile on someone’s face.
