Looking Behind The Seams
Our Quilt Show is over, and we can all be grateful and proud of its success. Just think
about the collective energy we expended to make it a reality and reflect on the value it brings to the Guild and to each of us personally.
We know the finances are important since the show is a major reason we are able to fund
first-class speakers and workshops. Thank you to Linda and Steve, all the volunteers, vendors, sponsors, and donors for bringing our show to life!

Quilt Artists, you brought your A+ game this year - our guests were awestruck by the beauty and creativity on display. The artistic process is a winding road, and when we reach the end of our journey we can experience joy tinged with speculation about how our works of the heart will be seen through another person’s eyes and spirit. Your courage is well won this month – you take my breath away!

Lynn Carson Harris lives in Michigan where she creates art, raises chickens, and grows vegetables. Both of Lynn’s parents grew up on farms and, like the little red hen in the children’s story, she was taught to do things from scratch and to never let anything go to waste. Her thrifty upbringing led to her current style of working with scraps and the desire to use “every last piece.”
Lynn's quilts have been featured in international shows and gallery exhibitions, and they are part of private collections worldwide. She is the author of "Every Last Piece" and has contributed to various books and magazines. Check out her website: https://www.lynncarsonharris.com

Lynn will share her quilts and talk about her journey from the first quilt she made as a teenager in 1976 to her current work. She will will share her process-driven art which emphasizes the act of creating—the materials, techniques, and journey—often valuing the steps of making a quilt more than the finished product. This focus allows her studio time to be filled with play and discovery.

Thank you for helping us produce a Quilt Show to be proud of! As I write this, most of us are resting up from a whirlwind of a week, sifting through pictures of inspirational quilts, memories of fun conversations and the joy of being around so many quilters as passionate as we are.

By the deadline for this newsletter, we have a few unaudited figures to share. Early attendance figures show that we welcomed 2,589 visitors, compared to 2,811 in 2024. However, we saw increases in Quilt Store and Basket Raffle sales. See the award-winning quilts and Block Party stories from our kids on our website. Photos from the show have been posted on Facebook and Instagram.
Our beautiful raffle quilt, Terrazzo, has found her forever home with Jane Conaway from Woodstock, GA.
Steve and I thank you for your support and encouragement as we took on our second quilt show in four years. While we are on a family beach trip when you read this, the numbers will be crunched and commission quilt sellers should be receiving checks by the end of the June. Extra show programs and show pins will be available at the June meetings. The fabric that was purchased to decorate the Guild tables will be available for sale at the June meeting.
One last Quilt Show Insider will be sent out by July 10 with final information about quilt show returns. We’ll see you at the June guild meetings!

Congratulations on Winning First Place!
Congratulations to the entire Guild for winning first place in the Group Quilt Category at the Georgia Celebrates Quilt Show! Creating this delightful Japanese President’s quilt for Devon Pfeif in 2024 was a labor of love and the result was stunning! Thanks to everyone who made these lovely blocks and to Sally Joerger and Merle Anderson for helping make this happen. Since the quilt was made by our Guild members, we are donating the $150 prize money to this beloved Guild.

Matriotism Exhibition opening at SQTM on June 20
Beginning on June 20, all 62 Matriotism quilts will be on display at the Southeastern Quilt and Textile Museum (SQTM) in Carrollton, GA. There will be an opening reception for Guild members, our friends, and the community on June 20th from 2:00 to 4:00 - we hope you will attend. The exhibit will run through August 5.
On Saturday, June 27, the Museum will host a Lace Making Demo Day in collaboration with the Atlanta Chapter of the International Organization of Lace. Click here for more information and to RSVP.
In addition to Matriotism, SQTM will simultaneously host a second exhibit, "Georgia Mountains to Shore," featuring the work of the Upcountry Fiber Artists, which should also be an interesting show. Carrollton is a fun place to visit with many great restaurants and little shops, so make a day of it!

"Squares," made by Mary Ellen, and "Stars Hollow," made by Ann, not only met the criteria for the award but were also full of color.
