The monthly newsletter from the
East Cobb Quilters' Guild
| November/December 2025 ~~ Volume 32, Issue 11 | | |
Good morning,
What a fabulous unveiling of the Matriotism Challenge last Friday! Our member participation was truly astounding, from initial interest to fascinating discussions, wonderful artwork and finally 62 beautiful entries. There will be plenty of quilts for our upcoming exhibits in 2026 and 2027.
The next phase is now upon us…the Atlanta History Center debut will be in January. Our initial goals for this challenge were to display ECQG’s artwork at a major Atlanta museum and secondly, to develop citywide recognition of our Guild and the art of quilting. We have well surpassed these goals with eight upcoming exhibitions. Amazing!
| | |
Thank you all for the joy that you brought to this challenge. Ribbons will be awarded to the five winners at the December holiday party. Reservations are required for this party, so please click the links below to reserve your place.
Happy Thanksgiving!

Whether you come to the Evening Group meeting or the Friday Guild Meeting (or both!), you will have time to visit with old friends and make some new ones too. You’ll have the opportunity to vote on Guild business, including proposed changes to the bylaws, approval of the budget, and election of officers for next year.
We need your RSVP for the Evening Group party and the General Guild party, so that we can plan seating and food. We have changed things up a bit from last year, so be sure to check it out.
Bring a donation for Pearl's Closet for at-risk patients at Children’s Healthcare. We will be collecting at both meetings. These kids need socks or underwear (any age/size), personal hygiene items (e.g. children’s toothbrush, toothpaste) or a small unwrapped toy (e.g. Lego kit, Squishmallow).
| | Let's Do (Guild) Business!! | | Each year, Guild officers complete critical tasks needed to keep the Guild running smoothly and compliant with business standards and applicable laws. Their work is made available to members for their review, and in some cases, for their vote. Here is what you need to know. | |
Guild Officers
Chaired by First Vice President Chris Ison, the Nominating Committee recommends the following slate of officers:
- President - Chris Isom
- First Vice President (President-elect) - Evelyn Kennedy
- Second Vice President (Programs) - Janet Schwerzel
- Third Vice President (Membership) - Denise Cornett
- Secretary - Laura Rose
- Treasurer - Abbi Rabeneck
Read more about them here, so you will be ready to vote at the meetings. Officers also serve on the Executive Committee along with Committee Chairs. Click here to see the 2026 Executive Committee roster.
A big thanks to all these members who have volunteered to serve our Guild!

Bylaws Amendments
All corporations are required to operate in accordance with their bylaws. The Guild conducts an annual review of our Bylaws, Policies and Procedures and Privacy Policy. The Bylaws Committee, chaired by the 1st Vice President, requires the assistance of a number of members who volunteer their time in the review process. The committee’s recommended changes are posted on the Guild website. Click here, log in, and scroll to the “Guild Governance” icon to see them. All members attending the December meetings are asked to vote on proposed changes to the Bylaws

| | MATRIOTISM CHALLENGE QUILTS | | Celebrating 250 Years of Inspirational Women Through Quilts | | |
Thank you to all who submitted quilts and those who helped with the reveal and hanging. They made a wonderful display of the talent in our Guild. The first exhibit will be at the Atlanta History Center, opening in mid January. Click here to see all the quilts. Ribbons will be awarded at the December meetings to makers of the top 5 quilts, as voted by the members. Congratulations!
The next challenge will be announced at the December Annual Meeting and Holiday Parties.
| | Become a Matriotism Ambassador! | | |
You can be an active part in sharing our Matriotism quilt exhibit with audiences throughout Georgia. Sign up to be an Ambassador, a group which will serve as docents at the locations where the exhibition will be shown. You will welcome visitors, give gallery talks to groups of adults and/or children, and introduce hands-on activities. There will be a training session before each venue, with the first one to be held in early January.
Please sign up here to take part in this celebration of 250 years of inspirational women through quilts. Let us know which venues will work best for you in 2026 and 2027 (we can always make adjustments later). Thanks for your support!

Thank you for all the donations that were turned in at October’s meetings! In fact, 30% of the members at those meetings donated at least one community service item. That's amazing!
We will not have the community service tables set up at the holiday party in December but ask that you bring teddy bears and NICU pillowcases to the party. We will have a sign-in sheet for those two projects only.
| | |
January is Community Service Month! We are looking forward to having speakers from the organizations that receive our donations. It is always inspiring to hear their stories of how our quilts and other items impact the lives of those in our community. We will also have the parade of quilts. The free tables will be back in January so do some culling of your fabric stash over the holidays.
Click here for all the information about our Community Service work. Questions? Contact Janice and Jackie.
| | ECQG JOINS WITH SEFAA FOR FESTIVAL | | | |

ECQG members will be taking our Raffle Quilt and fabric postcards to this event at the Southeast Fiber Arts Alliance on December 6 from 1 to 5pm. They will also be demonstrating how to make postcards. If you'd like to help, click here.
The Textile Tasting Festival is a good opportunity to learn about other fiber arts from organizations like ours - spinners, weavers, and more! Don't miss out!

As of the end of October, we had 375 members. As we near closing out this great year of two inspirational challenges, fabulous programs, our lovely Terrazzo raffle quilt, numerous community service projects, intriguing books read, and new friends made, it is time to think toward 2026 and renewing your membership. Our renewal drive starts December 1, so stay tuned for your email and opportunity to renew.
Annual dues will remain at $40, and ECQG membership continues to be a great bargain. If you join now, your $40 membership fee will include the upcoming December holiday parties and annual meeting (brunch cost is extra).
Please welcome our members who joined in October: Lisa Wang, Patrick Stephens, Karen Cleveland, Terry Utz, Kay Graap. 143 members attended our October General Guild meeting and 40 members attended the Evening Group meeting.
Questions about membership? Email Carolyn Powers.

Aren't the Matriotism quilts amazing??
Here is some fun from Ellen Apte. Her quilt is titled "How the Cookie Crumbles" and it honors Ruth Wakefield who invented the Toll House cookie.

You can adjust the number of pieces using the "Play As" tab in the upper right.
