No matter where I played in my career, supporters culture was at the heart of my football experience. From Liga MX, the Mexican National Team and onto my time in Seattle, the fans meant everything. As a wise man once said, without fans, football is nothing. As a player, you feel their energy on the pitch and it inspires you to do things you didn't think were possible. It's as if the energy from the stands is transferred into your body, and into the team as a collective, creating a singular communal experience on behalf of the club.
When I came to Seattle as a player, I recognized that bond instantly, and as a coach it's something I continue to appreciate every day. Without your voice, our players cannot feel that emotion and reach their highest level of performance. It means everything. We all play a role in guiding and supporting our players. From the training pitch at Starfire to the Brougham End at CenturyLink Field, it all has an impact.
One of the most incredible aspects of the Sounders community is the love and inclusiveness that is exhibited every day. Soccer is a global sport and you learn very quickly how to work, play and create relationships with people that come from vastly different backgrounds. It gives me great pride to have played and coached for a fanbase that celebrates Latino heritage, and I genuinely thank ECS and La Barra for all the great things they do in the community.
In my career, I've played at some big clubs and participated in some of the world's largest competitions, but being a Sounder and representing all of you gives me pride that is unique. What we have here in Seattle is special, and I consider it an honor to share it with you all.

A special message for members
Each and every match, we cheer, we sing, we wave our blue and rave green for our guys. Tomorrow, roles will be reversed for a moment and the Sounders will cheer for families like mine. Tomorrow, our Club will shine its considerable light on the battle against childhood cancers.
Last year, my three-year-old daughter, Jane, was diagnosed with stage IV kidney cancer that had spread to both lungs, lymph nodes and her spine. This is when I learned that cancer kills more of our kids than all other diseases combined. I learned every two minutes, a family is told "your child has cancer." People think childhood cancer is rare, but 1 in 285 Americans will be diagnosed with cancer before they turn 20 years old. Yet funding is extremely scarce because there's not enough sick kids to make developing drugs profitable. Our kids deserve better. I can only do so much to get these facts out there, so when our Club commits to raising awareness for the plight of childhood cancer warriors, it is

This month, the Sounders have promoted blood donation (absolutely essential for kids with cancer), worn gold ribbons on their jerseys, worked with the amazing Austen Everett Foundation to connect kids fighting cancer with their heroes on the pitch, and much more. This is not just an MLS initiative. Our players have stepped up personally to help. Stefan Frei designed, signed and numbered 240 scarves for my September fundraiser,

. Ozzie, Cristian and Schmetz helped promote my efforts and together we've raised over $25,000 for ground-breaking research at Seattle Children's. Chad showed up to donate blood at our blood drive. They've made me feel like they care about my family as much as we care about them. They are rooting for us as much as we rooted for them. So while I cheer them on to victory with you tomorrow, there will be tears. Tears of gratitude. Tears of hope. Tears of love.
There's a saying in cancer circles: No one fights alone. Thank you, Sounders, for fighting with us.

. Remember, one of the benefits to ECS membership is your access to both home and away playoff matches for the 2018 playoffs (jinx jinx jinx).
You should make sure that you have resolved any membership issues you may have ASAP! You can email us at [email protected] or [email protected] with questions. After September 30, 2018 at midnight Pacific, you will not be able to add any membership or account(s).
If we have a match in California for the playoffs (jinx jinx jinx), tickets will be limited to 1 per membership. Please join us in our newly recognized ECS SoCal group!
